Morocco currently up on Colombia and Germany and SK tied. If that holds, Germany is eliminated. 77'
Korea brought on their second striker to man mark Popp and she still hit a post, scored a glorious goal called back on offsides, and another clear header.
Germany throwing everything at SK and they are holding.
Morocco is the first team to advance to the knockout stage in their first appearance at a WC (which seems like a fudged stat).
Morocco huddled around a phone on the field watching the Germany game go final, then losing their minds. Absolutely incredible scenes. First Arab nation to qualify for a Women's World Cup. They advance ahead of Germany.

A great discussion between not only two of the best but also smartest players in recent years. It's a solid 10 minute conversation and they don't hold back and hit the nail on the head.
Some great points they make:
- We haven't seen any tactical changes from Vlatko ever, not just in this tournament. - Tobin talks about how people are commenting how Crystal Dunn looks lost and says that's how she felt watching Press and Mewis during the Olympics and why that's on the coach. - How we screwed up this transition from old guard to new

Good discussion. Have not been able to listen to it all the way through, will later.
Couple quick thoughts Coaching is lacking that is very obvious. But also is being used as a scapegoat by players/former players. Yes, the coaching has been bad and no adjustments have been made. But they have not been made in the last few years. People are now just taking the time to look at this, because they have looked so horrible in the tournament.
We did not look good in the Olympics and Don't look good now. But the focus on the WNT has been we are the two time defending World Cup Champions, how dare you criticize us. We will game up when the time comes and win again. If that happens great, lots of people will eat crow. But so many people have seen this coming, it has felt like most have been ostriches with their head in the sand.
The focus on the women's team has been equal rights, equal pay, politics and then soccer. Everyone has their own priorities and I will not say they are not in the right order.
I think you need a complete failure of a world cup to make people wake up and refocus on rebuilding the program and not just trying to hold onto old memories/players to make one more run
I guess the Germany players must have been super arrogant and distracted by all their woke activism.
Germany had an aging problem, much like the US. Their main offensive weapons are all over 32 years of age and are not the offensive players they used to be. They had lost a match to Zambia before the World Cup and most blew it off, but obviously it was a sign of what was to come.

I don't see how you could take the #1 ranked team (even acknowledging that fifa rankings are dumb and flawed) and two time defending champs and decide to change everything up for this tournament. Failing that way would probably be worse than how they are about to fail.
But I do hope it leads to some changes, because the rest of the world (especially Europe) seems ready to apply the vastly better soccer resources and infrastructure that they built for the men's game to their women's teams.

They already are and have been for a few years now…we have to change something up or the women's team will rank around the same as the men's within 5-10 years

It is not about changing everything. But we have changed nothing. And that is what people have been complaining about for a few years know and people keep using the argument that we are the best why do we need to change anything.
Now we have had a few major injuries that have effected our team, with Mallory Pugh/Swanson out and Catarina Macario. But not sure if they would have lifted us the way some expect.
But still, for years we have need to make small adjustments and bring in younger players to give them more experience and development for times like this. So it was not about changing everything, it was about the lack of making any changes for years
We've been watching this coming for the last 4 or 5 years....scoring in the run of play has been a struggle going back to the last World Cup and that hasn't been fixed.
Germany had one offensive starter over the age of 30 in the game. That particular player scored in every game, put another off the post, scored a called back goal, and had another legit chance while penetrating a back 6 for South Korea.
Not sure what that lolold's KM covered was but her back pressing was about as good as you'll see from a 10 over 90 frantic minutes.
Their three offensive subs were all under 23 and had an impact in the latter stages of the game. Lohmann in particular nearly scored twice.
I get we hear the talking points but age isn't why they were eliminated...they were eliminated because they let Columbia off the hook as time expired on a weak fluky goal.
USWNT have one offensive player they count on over the age of 30....their problems are more akin to Brazil than Germany. They're playing individual dribble through you soccer. Is that because they don't agree with you politically and it causes them to not play good soccer? Don't know, but the fact that we can't talk about them without *****ing about their politics gets old.
USWNT is playing garbage soccer right now. I don't think it has to do with the activism, but has to do with picking an all star team.
Germany lost...it sucks but go look at the game. They didn't look like individuals...also note how many of their players play for 1-2 clubs. Look at Spain...Look at France. Hell look at England (clumps of players across multiple clubs). Our team is essentially an NWSL all star team plus Lindsey Horan. That to me is the root issue.

Svenja Huth - MF - 32 Played all 90 minutes - They started her at Right Back put in the past she has played Mid-Field and or Forward. Did not notice they were playing her on backline '

I admit I haven't watched a lot of WMNT matches, but this seems to be true through 3 games. To me the biggest factor in these games is the lack of chemistry on the field and naturally they look lost out there.
It's hard because you want the best players to play in the international competition, but you can no longer sacrifice chemistry for talent. This tournament has shown that the rest of the world has caught up with the US and we have to figure out how to best select a team moving forward.
I remember it happened in basketball when we sent the best players not caring about chemistry and then we started losing to teams that had been playing together for a long time. We started to pay attention to this and changed how to best select the Men's National team.
We have the talent; we just need to figure out how to best utilize this talent in the knockout stages and I hope the coaching staff better prepares the team for the next rounds or we will see us lose to Sweden.
Read Das Reboot about the German Men's National team reboot before the 2014 world cup and how they balanced the two core groups: Bayern and Dortmund and then added players here and there. It was intentional in how they picked teams.
Chemistry/roster balance is so overlooked in most sports but especially soccer.
It is also interesting in how they rebuilt their youth/club structure as well as opposed to the cash grab, gong show that is US soccer.

This is a great point, and why you need to make a lineup that is cohesive and a can play together. You cant just always put your 'best' players out and expect it to work. They have to be complimentary pieces
I feel like we're rehashing a bunch of discussions about the team that we've had over the last months. This team and coaching staff aren't well-suited for tournament play due to injuries/lack of depth and shallow/inflexible tactics, both of which compound the other.
I know not everyone in here sees eye to eye on player social and political activism/beliefs, and that's okay, but I do think fans oversell the importance of those as some sort of detriment to the teams effectiveness on the field. Many teams deal with much larger issues than the USWMT has faced over the years and still been able to win games.
The team is in need of a hard reset. Roster and coaching turnover need to happen. It's just too bad it's going to take another WC failure to get that ball rolling.
Well said and that's where I'm at. I've said it multiple times, but you could start to see the cracks back in 2019. I think it was the game against Spain where I felt we were massively outplayed, but we managed to get 2 penalties that Rapinoe put away.
Then the 2021 Olympics happened and we looked really poor, but everyone seemed to just say it was a fluke and we'd be fine. We really haven't looked good since then. Like you said, the tactics have been poor and then its only exacerbated by missing injured players.
