It wasn't the miss. It was the smile like she didn't care. I know that everyone handles pressure differently, but I have watched hundreds of pks. That was abnormal. Usually they are pissed at themselves and feel they let down their team. They turn and their team has to help them hold it together.

That's a pretty biased reading of body language. It wasn't a smile of happiness.
This is what I thought. I've definitely seen and done stuff and kinda had that shocked laugh/grin like "what the **** just happened?"GrayMatter said:
It looked like she was in disbelief to me.
But we're judging their reaction to a missed goal now?
She did the best she could and she was a great player that didn't belong in the game in the first place. That decision was based on the coach and I'm sure he's done running the team because he didn't do a good job at all.
She's laughing all the way to the bank. Ironic that a year after the women help themselves to the men's share, they abruptly dump out of the biggest tournament at the earliest stage every. Coincidence?dallasiteinsa02 said:

Not the biggest fan or hers but did you miss the part where she looked up and just uttered f****CK. She was clearly frustrated.dallasiteinsa02 said:jeffk said:dallasiteinsa02 said:

I just went through 30 minutes of missed penalty kicks. Couldn't find one that the player smiled after missing. It was mostly as I described. I don't think I am being bias when I say that laughing is abnormal maybe on the thought that she didn't care, but you showed your bias by changing that to happiness.
It then caused me to try to find a video of her previous missed kick to see her reaction. She is 6/6 for the national team and 13/14 for her club team. Her one miss was 6/16/2018, but it was during the regular time so if she kept it on goal there wouldn't be a reaction.
I watched her have the same reaction when she mi**** a corner kick in Houston in Olympic qualifying in early 2020...clearly frustrated by not hitting a better corner. For the record that wasn't a terrible corner just not up to her standards.jeffk said:
Sorry I misstated what you said. I think she cared about missing. Sure, it wasn't the distraught collapse you get sometimes, but her reaction was in line with what I've seen from some other players that have missed big scoring chances. I've had the same reaction myself. Kind of an incredulous "**** me" kind of laugh/smile if you will.
IDK, I just get tired of folks assuming the absolute worst about a player.

It was a horrible take. She missed the goal by like 15'. Her form on the take was poor. She was horrible with her crosses. Look, she was never shy about garnering as much attention as she could when she scored; Newton's 3rd law says she's gonna get hammered when she effs it up.dallasiteinsa02 said:jeffk said:dallasiteinsa02 said:

It was absolutely an abnormal reaction. I don't think anyone would say otherwise. I can't remember ever seeing a reaction like that.
But that doesn't mean she didn't care. I think almost any other player would be given the benefit of the doubt in that situation especially one who has achieved what she has. If Messi, Ronaldo, Wambach, Marta, etc. etc. etc. smiled after missing a WC PK (the literal last kick of their career) and smiled, I don't think anyone would have claimed it's because they didn't care. They would almost assuredly be given the benefit of the doubt because it makes absolutely, 100%, no logical sense that any player, let alone an elite player (or former elite player if you want to quibble) in that situation would not care. But many do not afford her that benefit for some very obvious reasons.
