Think of the bright side, the team of the country you live in and gave you all your opportunities is advancing.

I will say, it feels better to have Poland advancing at least by goal differential. Advancing via yellow cards is just dumb and woke

Better cards than drawing lots. Should have possession percentage come into play before drawing lots though. That would entirely eliminate drawing lots since the odds of any two teams have equal amounts of possession is near zero. I would put possession before cards too.

Try and make something idiot proof, and all they do is make a better idiot.

Should be done by penetrations.

I'm no Mexican fan but our resident Mexico fan Brian Earl is one of the better posters here. Sorry your team is out and I'm definitely surprised, as they always seem to find a way through.

this is like my brother. He was born in US and a huge US supporter, but lives in London, and his wife and her family is all Welsh. So literally 3/4 of the teams in our bracket he was cheering for. Felt like cheating to me...

Congrats to Tata Martino for finally winning a huge game in his tenure at Mexico. He will no longer have the burden of drawing or losing every single big game Mexico played for the last 3 years or whatever.

Poland, even with the yellow card they picked up today. Mexico was WAY behind on that tiebreaker.

I love to beat Mexico, but I wish they were advancing. They are so much more entertaining to watch than Poland, who, let's face it, sucks. Lewendowsky, a bunch of scrubs, and a keeper who stands on his head.

France probably would have beaten Mexico, but they will destroy Poland, who may get 5 minutes of possession past midfield.

i was at the pub watching both games... well, watching the ARG-POL game with an Argentinian and a handful of ARG fans while the other half the bar was cheering for Mexico.. That was intense for so long while Poland was worthless for 90 minutes and just hanging in there while both MEX and ARG were pounding chances in, either of which could have buried them. ...very satisfying to see a Messi PK miss ended up sending Mexico home.

Usually indifferent when it comes to Mexico's national team, but boy I was pulling and hoping for them to win and advance. Their play was entertaining today.

yes. Poland looked terrible. They have one of the best strikers in the world and wanted no part of possessing the ball or trying to set up chances for him. I hope they change tactics vs France when they don't have a +4 GD protecting them.

Totally agree.

Just giving you a hard time Brian.

I am the same way in a lot of sports. I go for the Rangers and the Astros for example. And Arkansas. Weird I know.

Argentina is looking at Australia (FIFA rank like 38 or something) in the round of 16 knock out and then the winner of NED-USA. They probably see a fairly clear path to a semi-final vs Brazil.

Because they were beyond desperate today. They sucked the previous two matches. So glad they're packing their bags.

This is the last world cup with this format. Anybody have any bets on how awful the final game of the group stages will be in 2026?

That brings back memories.

I remember a game where Odessa Permian and Arlington played at Texas Stadium. Permian tied it 35-35 late. They were tied on penetrations. And Permian won something like 13-11 on first downs. Arlington needed 2 first downs to tie that category and win on total yards, but threw an interception. Arlington made the mistake of scoring in one play on one of their drives.

interesting that the opening match of this group - Saudi Arabia stunning Argentina - ended up meaning nothing, as Argentina still won the group and Saudi still finished last in the group.

Messi's PK being saved was huge for Poland. Mexico probably doesn't push in extra time for that 3rd goal and they advance.
