It's my opinion one should actually accomplish something before getting such a nickname.

Man, a more appropriate nickname is Elijah Price.

I hope my thoughts about GR7 are wrong.

Needs to be about $35 cheaper for that kit, and then I'd buy it to wear while I mow my lawn.

Those wretched collar fangs made this the worst home design we've had in a long time… and that's saying a lot.

This is a really good assessment of our player pool.

I don't agree 100%, but nothing worth arguing about.

if you're involved with the USMNT, especially a player, if this Marsch quote doesn't motivate and infuriate you I don't want you wearing the shield ever

Quote:

Believe me, I'm not bitter," Marsch said. "I'd rather coach our team, 100 percent, no questions asked. I'd much rather coach Canada than the U.S. right now. You can see the mentality that's been developed. You can see the way this team plays. You can see how much they love playing for the national team and they're willing to put their careers and lives, in the way they play, on the line to be the best they can be for each other and for the team. And that's all you can ask for as a coach."

After watching that match, I can't disagree with him.

To me it looked like a handful of guys wanted it.

Needs to be said that everyone knows this window of friendlies is largely meaningless for the US. Players know it, coaches know it, fans (mostly) know it. It's not great and I don't condone the mentality, but it is what it is: Friendlies taking place between two different coaching regimes. I'm sure the players and coaches wanted to win... but I doubt the effort and mentality was what it needed to be or will be once Poch takes over.

Canada already hated the US and desperately wants to unseat us as the regional powerhouse. Marsh's little bruised ego only adds to that. Dude is such a whiner. It's a friendly, bro. You beat a coach-less group of players coming off the worst summer in two decades. Go ahead and crow about how wonderful your team's mentality is. Everyone knows you're still just bitter because you didn't get handed the job you thought you deserved.

I didn't want us to hire Marsch, but if the stories are true, he really does have legitimate reasons to be very upset about what happened. It wasn't merely that he thought he should be handed the job… USSF were purportedly very far along in the process to hire him, but then they pulled the plug after players wanted to back Ggg.

I suspect that Adams, McKennie, and Aaronson were instrumental in that decision, having played for him at Leeds - and Marsch feels particularly betrayed. Especially considering he spent a lot of time with Adams at NYRB and Leipzig.

If the stories of him tanking interviews for several other jobs prior to the USMNT opening are true, then he shouldn't have ever been considered a legitimate option for us either. And honestly, while I know it's weird for some to let the players have a lot of input in coaching hires, at this level, and for an international team, they should have some input. Hiring Gregg back was an mistake for sure. But I don't know that they're wrong about not hiring Marsch. He's gotten Canada to some good results, but so did Herdman.

He can feel betrayed if he wants to, but this is bad... for Marsch. When a bunch of the best American players on the planet don't trust an American coach to lead the American team... that's a massive red flag. And I don't buy the "it's because he's so tough" line of thinking either.

Maybe I'll be proven wrong and Canada will advance to the round of 16 in the WC. Maybe Marsch is a world-class coach and we'll be sorry we passed on letting him manage our squad. I don't see it happening, but I've been wrong plenty of times before.

I think you could be right. Like I said, I didn't want him to be our coach. I watched him plenty at Leipzig and a bit more at Leeds and wasn't impressed. I was mostly playing Devil's Advocate regarding the notion that his sour grapes were because he thought he deserved the job.

I think if Adams, McKennie, and Aaronson spoke up, they did us a great service. But it would also not be surprising that it would create a deep rift.

I agree with you completely about his coaching prowess/reputation. He spent his off-time living in Italy, learning another language while looking for work around Europe… And as a seemingly competent coach who desperately wanted to find a European job and spoke good German, and probably at least decent Spanish and Italian, the best job he could find was… Canada. Speaks volumes to his reputation. They deserve each other.

Also, and relatedly, I think Marsch knows this is perhaps a "last chance" at having a coaching career and if it doesn't pan out, his future is in broadcasting, and what he's doing now is solid gold for becoming a pundit. He's gonna be the next Alexi Lalas whose bad takes we all love to hate.

I'm no fan of US Soccer and was sympathetic to Marsch when he alluded to US Soccer giving him the runaround but now he's just acting like a little btch. Since he loves Canada so much, hope he gets stuck there for the rest of his career.

It probably would've been better to be precise and say "USSF" instead of "US Soccer." Your statement reads differently if you don't make that connection.

You'd have to be Commie to ban 42.

They probably just couldn't understand Sevens, and then dressed up their stupidity by calling the game corrupt.
