The U.S. men's national team is, by some measures, the youngest in all of international soccer. It will kick off its 2022 World Cup on Nov. 21 armed with early-20-somethings currently employed by prominent European clubs. The number of American players in the world's top five leagues has exploded over the past two seasons, while the average age of those players has steadily fallen, from 27.6 in 2012-13 to 21.2 last season, according to Transfermarkt data compiled by Yanks Abroad.
Imagine the age without grandpa Ream.

Crazy.

Would be even younger if Richards had been healthy and gotten minutes this season. He's more than a decade younger than Ream.

There are 3 teenagers on the roster, Musah, Reyna and Scally though both Reyna and Musah will turn 20 by end of group stage.

Reyna just turned 20.

Not that that matters or anything.

thanks for posting. having a son who played on the DA team for his club and the state ODP team for several years, I find articles on these subjects very interesting.

Yeah I just finished reading that. Great article explaining the massive change that has taken place in the past 15 years. Wow. Gives a ton of hope for our future.

some good stuff in there. never mentioned Jurgen Klinnsman; I thought he was instrumental in overhauling the youth system with the former DA.

FC Dallas, for example, has produced players that drove it to the MLS playoffs. But it has also sold Ricardo Pepi, Chris Richards, Reggie Cannon, Bryan Reynolds and Tanner Tessmann for some $40 million, and reinvested that money to accelerate the cycle.

Now, the youth showcase tournaments once abuzz with college coaches are welcoming European scouts. Now, when U.S. Club Soccer hops on a call with partners at Spain's La Liga, "they are interested in talent identification," Cullina says.
Quote:

"The quality of the [American] players increased significantly over the last five or 10 years," Bayern Munich academy chief Jochen Sauer told Yahoo Sports in 2018. Many believe that it will continue increasing, and that the country's developmental systems are "just scratching the surface."
Quote:

"The U.S. market is unbelievable, very good right now," Dremmler said in 2018. "The programs are better and better. ... We will see the final result in five to 10 years." In 2026, he said, "you will have a very strong national team."

FC Dallas U16 team won a tournament in Germany with like 6 German clubs in it. They're all mostly 05s and about half are playing for North Texas SC in MLS next.

I hope he can continue to develop.

Of all of our flash-in-the-pan 9's, I think I enjoyed him the most.

I don't think Pulisic has the legs to play for Klopp, but then neither apparently do the rest of our forwards and strikers.

Pulisic under Eddie Howe would be a sight to see. Just think of the transformation Miguel Almiron had when he took charge.

Tillman is really growing into a good player. By all accounts he is getting better and better with each start he has. I'm excited to see him feature in future USMNT games.

Tillman has shown flashes of talent this season, but he lacks consistency. He was great in some of the qualifiers but did very little in the first old firm match and champion's league games (though he had little help). They tried him as a winger, but he looked most comfortable in a CAM role. It's great to have him in the pool but hard to see him getting many minutes with the USMNT A team with Gio likely playing a similar role.

On another note, playing for Rangers or Celtic is a really good spot for young developing talent. It's easier to break into the first team then for upper echelon teams in top 5 leagues. Most of the league is on par with MLS but you get 4 games a year versus your Glasgow rival and (usually) at least 6 against Champions/Europa league games. Weah looked okay during a loan spell with Celtic. CCV has really come along and should get decent offers from Premier league teams in a year or 2.

"On par with MLS" outside of Rangers/Celtic isn't accurate, IMO. I think Transfermarkt values are useful.

The average player for Hearts is worth 571k… they're 3rd best in the Premiership.

The lowest value MLS team (SLC) has an average player value of 784k.

Outside of Celtic/Rangers - the league is pretty trashy.

Pepsi with a brace in 57' this AM. Still one Hr of time for the hatty.

Just a club friendly though. Not sure why FotMob had to wake me up with his first goal.

Malik Tillman scored again yesterday.

Also idk how but we need to get Balogun to commit his future to the US. He is that pure #9 we need. Has 10 goals on the season in Ligue 1. Only players who have scored more this season… Neymar and Mbappe.

Not a player update but GGG's contract ran out on the 31st. I wonder will happen moving forward. Personally I'm in the boat of let's move on to another coach.

So weird. So little noise coming on that front.

Celtic - Rangers finished 2 - 2.

CCV was excellent. Very strong in defense and had several key blocks (one on a Tillman shot late). Only one mistake in which he did well to win the ball, but tried to dribble out of trouble and turned it back over. I think he's ready for a mid table Premier league team to swoop in for him. He makes up for his lack of height defensively by using his body so well to shield away attackers.

Tillman was a disappointment. Several shots, but nothing troubling and just didn't create much. Had a critical defensive error which would have led to a goal if the winger didn't overrun a ball to the far post.

Sands came on as a late sub for Tillman as Rangers tried to ice a 2-1 lead. Only sequence from him I remember is he had the ball in the attacking 3rd and took way too long before getting his pocket picked. From what I've seen of him, his 1v1 defense looked really good, but has been caught out of position a number of times at CB. He's a CDM all the way for me and it's tough to see him breaking into the USMNT midfield.

For any CanMNT fans, Alistair Johnston got his first start at RB (just transferred from Montreal) due to injury and a likely pending transfer with the other RBs. I thought he looked really good defensively and was a bright spot. He looked a bit out of sync going forward but I think that's just adjusting to his new role.

We have some serious American talent playing in the championship. I'll also note this West Brom was 19th before Dike came back and since his return are now sitting in 9th. I'm not saying it's because of him but I'm also not saying otherwise
