Thats because "GGG" is mostly **** upon for not being what some expect, rather than being actually bad.
He's not Pochettino, but he's also not bad. The weaknesses of both coach's team devolve mostly from the players available to them, IMO.
What makes me tap the brakes on Poch is that he costs more than double.
We crapped on GGG largely because USSF was taking the cheap and safe approach.
Now they've splurged but the results aren't much different. Again, I'd much rather watch Poch's WC team than GGG's due to tactical preference but at the end of the day, it's a results game and the results are largely a push for WC games and at this point, GGG was clearly better in CONCACAF (but also struggled early).
I'm optimistic but wary. Maybe I've been burned by too many Aggie football HC extensions, but I feel like there's a decent chance we're going to need to pay a big buyout because Poch's CONCACAF record doesn't improve and WCQ is on the ropes.
For me, the worst outcome isn't Poch leaving early. If he leaves early for a champions league caliber job, it likely means he'll have done well here - in which case I'd be sad to lose him, but he likely will would leave a good blueprint for the next guy.
The worst outcome is if he fails, and while I don't think it's likely, it is a concern to have a high salary coach on a long contract when he really has a spotty record here outside of 3 WC wins against bad teams. He's adapting and figuring out how to coach this team far more than GGG ever did so I remain hopeful that he's going to accomplish great things.
