The thing that many don't realize is that the DP slot is just an accounting mechanism more than anything else.
In order to keep our U22 initiative spots (i.e. be able to carry 3 U22 players who have a much smaller salary cap hit) a team's third DP has to be under $1.6 million (the first two can be any salary). Salaries can be bought down with allocation money in different ways, last season Ring made $1.1 million that was bought down to the max salary cap hit for a non-DP (around 650k).
All the DP tag really means is that we don't have to buy down his salary, at some point we can sign another DP and he can be shifted to a non-DP status (if we have the allocation money available to buy him down).
Haven't seen anything on Dominguez yet, report a few days ago was that he had reportedly verbally but not physically abused his ex and the club has been very proactive with local authorities.
