There was an interview a while back with the French MNT coach about their strategy against Messi. He said that rather than try to merely man mark or double team Messi, they tried to defend the rest of the team in a way that made it really hard for them to pass to Messi in the first place. Despite this, he still got 2 assists.

I did notice that it seemed like it took a damn long time for Messi to get his first touch yesterday. And it was a damn good touch as he almost got an assist out of it (I think think his 2nd touch was an assist). This made me wonder if other teams are attempting the France strategy against Argentina too.

This match looks more like the undercard for the UFC fight than soccer so far.

I guess its usually just an immediate play, and not a shot deflection finish, so it seemed excessive.

I always wondered, what if a defender does something that woudl draw a yellow red card. Does it get rescinded when they play would be offside anyways? What if a player gets hurt as a result of a desparate play to stop a goal?

Still 1-0 Argentina at 65th minutes.

Second half has been non stop action.
