My wife and I are looking for a good home for our sweet dog, Lucy. We got Lucy from the Brazos Vally Animal Shelter when she was 8 weeks old and she will turn 4 this coming April. She is a mix of some sort (see pics below) that weighs about 55 pounds. She is house broken and has free roam of our house all day and night whether we are here or not and does great without ever chewing anything up.

She was recently (Nov. 4) attacked by two pit bulls and has shown some slight dog aggression since then but never before. She also has some anxiety around children and occasionally larger men. She is a very sweet dog that would be perfect for a single woman needing a companion and/or dog to make them feel safe.

We are finding Lucy a new home because I am a pastor that has people in our home constantly and her anxiety around certain men and children does not make her life very enjoyable in our home anymore. We love her dearly and really want to find her a home where she can be happy and carefree.

Thanks for your reply. Her behavior has varied from just being extremely anxious and nervous to snapping near them as a warning that she is uncomfortable. She has never, ever actually bit anyone.

We took her to puppy love training for a session with a behaviorist and had very positive feedback but we just have people over so often and have so much going on in our home that there is really just very little chance for Lucy to be comfortable. The final straw for us was when she showed some dog aggression after being attacked by the pit bulls. We have a very sweet (and passive) yellow lab and just could not forgive ourselves if something went wrong someday.

We have talked to our vet (Dr. Barling) about this at length and she completely understands and has affirmed our needing to do what we feel like is best for our family situation and also for Lucy. It is not comfortable for either of us when she is anxious with people around and we are anxious anytime we have to have people around (which is constantly).

Have you considered surrendering her to a no-kill breed specific rescue? In my experience, they are pretty careful to whom they adopt dogs out to. We adopted a papillion mix for my mom, and had to have a "home visit" by one of their representatives to make sure we were suitable. Adopting her wasn't cheap - so it was a serious thing. They made us go through several hoops to make sure we really wanted her. I don't know if they are all like that though.

Good luck...we almost had to do the same with our dog...but we found a way to make it work.

Agreed. Save it for the great people throwing dogs out in the middle of the country.

Hey Field, sorry to hear that about Lucy. She was a great dog at camp and its hard to believe that she has switched her personality so much.

just an idea... our dog can be very anxious around people. there is a pheromone spray a trainer showed us that they sell at petsmart and it reduced our dog's anxiety. if you are still open to trying, this may be something to look at along with additional in home training.

Does anyone know what kind of mix that dog is? My parents rescued one that looks exactly like that and weight the same. Its very outgoing when people are in the house, but when a stranger approaches the door or you take it outside it tries to rip someones head off.
