Since we are talking history of the War Hymn, I will add my two cents.
During my time as a student 1952-1956 I was not aware that Hot Time had words and for sure I never heard anyone sing to it. I suspect that was something added at a later time.
As for the War Hymn: (According to my reference "The Story of Texas A&M" by George Sessions Perry, Copyright 1951. Copyright 1951 by The Curtis Publishing Company. McGraw-Hill Book Company.)
There are two versions of The Aggie War Hymn. The first had words and music by J.V. "Pinkie" Wilson. The second had words by "Pinkie" Wilson but arrangement by Thornton W. Allen. (Both versions are under copyright of Thorton W. Allen. I do not read music so I defer to the wit of a music major to tell the difference.)
The copyright statement on a copy of the sheet music states: "Copyright, 1921, by J. M. Reynolds. Copyright transferred, 1938, to "Pinkie" Wilson. Copyright assigned 1938, to The Thornton W. Allen, Company, New York. Copyright ,1938, by the Thornton W. Allen, Company. All Rights Reserved, including public performance for profit."
The copyrighted version of The Aggie War Hymn had two verses.
