So sad to learn of Howard's death. For the past 25 years my wife and I have had season tickets in section 319 of Kyle to all the home games. Our seats are just outside of and only 4-5 feet from the opening of the section 319 portal. Howard has been the regular usher standing at that portal for at least the past 15 years. During that time he has become a friend with whom we have exchanged many conversations and been the recipient of many stories about his involvement with members of the football team in his classes.

His obvious love for all his students was apparent and was frequently demonstrated by the numerous former students who would stop by to exchange greetings, handshakes and hugs throughout each game. There are many of us that have held seats in that same area over the years who will sorely miss Howard's presence at this year's games. He was certainly one of the good ones.

from his flat top haircut to the center of his heart, Dr. Hesby was a legend. No professor had the passion for students and this university like him. When God looked at him and his zeal for life and his fellow man, you know God was smiling. In our lives, from time to time we lose someone unexpectedly and causes a great sense of loss. Losing Dr. Hesby and everything about this man stings us all to the core. Hopefully and with God's grace, we'll all once again see you on the other side.

I had the honor of being one of Dr. Hesby’s TA’s for 4 semesters. What a man. One of the best complement I ever received was when he met my wife and told me if we ever needed a recommendation for anything he would be happy to write one for either of us. I told him thanks, but my wife was not an animals science major, nor had she taken your class. He said, “So, I know the kind of person you are, and I know the kind of person you’d marry and I’d be happy to write on for her.” Thank you Dr. Hesby for all you did for us over the years.

My youngest sister in law is starting as a fish this fall.
She was supposed to be in his class, when I broke the news to her she was very sad and said that she remembered him speaking at her orientation.

Is anyone really going to be able to pick up where he left off?

I was an MIS major and never had a class with him, but I'm still saddened by this. I just remember I had a class in the Ag building (Finance I believe) and he taught the class right before mine. I distinctly remember that he would have students in the class give the number of their buddies that had skipped class. He would then call the student and put them on the speaker phone (why does a prof have speakerphone in a huge auditorium to begin with?) and the entire class said, "We're here, why aren't you?" The only response I remember was one girl saying very frankly, "Because I'm hungover." Oh that was one of my favorite college memories.

One of the greatest professors to walk into the Kleberg building, not only fom an administration standpoint but personal friend to us all, god bless his dear wife.

During the funeral, Dr. Hesby's Pastor at Peace Lutheran Church mentioned that even though Hesbys had no children of there own, Kay did have 1,000s of "his Aggie kids" to look after her. He requested that former students email her their favorite H2 story. I'll contact the church tomorrow to get the address.

My heart dropped when I read it. I only had one class from him many years ago, but I'll never forget him. A true gentleman and teacher in every sense of the word.

He was far and away the most influencial prof. I had at A&M. He would get so passionate about teach he would sweat right through his suit jacket which he always wore to lecture. He was a solid man and true Aggie, dedicated to his job and students.
This is a major loss. God bless his family, may he rest amongst the Lord's people.

Hesby was an awesome man!! He will be greatly missed by everyone. I know that there has been a request for everyone to email Kay...his wife and tell her a short story of an experience with Hesby. We were told not to write a book on it BUT as we all know anyone who has spent just 5 minutes with that awesome man CAN write a book about that experience. He was the man that I looked up to and still will. I think everyone will want to be like him. He honestly was the reason I made it through A&M. My prayers are with Kay and the rest of his family. He now is on the welcoming committee in the Best place...HEAVEN! He will be the person to greet each and every person that enters those pearly gates and if he has met you before he will remember your name and if it's his first time to meet you he will never forget your name.

This is sad news. My favorite memory of Dr. Hesby was getting help from him after my first semester at A&M in 1987. I ended up on scholatic probation and I told him I wanted to stay around there longer than a year. He helped me pick out some classes I could pass. I ended up getting a Masters degree. If it were not for him I would not be where I am today!
