I like many others thought the "LSU out of the SEC conference" talk was just posturing, until now.

It is clear that the courts have left conferences with no ability to enforce their own rules. The only rule that a court could not overturn due to the bylaws of being a member is membership itself. The only chance the conferences have of making and enforcing rules is to have a cautionary tale of what happens when the nuclear button must be hit. I think this could be LSU's FAFO moment.

Add on top of that LSU putting Sankey on the stand for 3 hours and the embarrassing comments from the LSU side post trial, and the chances that the other schools take the ultimate punishment against LSU just became much more real.

It's a game of chicken and LSU has a lot more to lose. If they can't get what they want through the courts, they'll cave before getting kicked out.

An NBA G league player. We have/had one on our roster for this upcoming season as well. The rule was just passed, though. Wasn't in place last season.

I actually agree with LSU and the players.

I hate everything about NIL and open transfer but you can't say that paying college players millions of dollars doesn't turn them into professional athletes, regardless of what league they play in. So what if they signed and practiced over the summer with an NFL team. They didn't make the cut and thus, were never truly on an NFL roster. It's a technicality.

That said, I'd love to see SEC hypocrisy in exceptional form and kick out a founding member of conference.

I was not aware that we have one for this year. Are we releasing him as a result of the ruling? It really doesn't matter if it was G league or not. If we haven't released him that seems a little hypocritical.

Bryson Warren was ruled ineligible by NCAA, then he got a TRO saying he could play, then SEC made the announcement reaffirming its rule against pro players, then he entered transfer portal to leave A&M

My question is why aren't more people upset with Missouri and Texas bringing in guys who were in NFL mini camps but actually never signed? Their intentions were to become NFL players and go the process as well. They fall under this 5 years to play 5 rule too

Who knows what's going to happen, but I can promise you one thing. The other 15 member institutions and Sankey said no professional players. Period. LSU chose to not vote. Fast forward two weeks and LSU's and Kiffin's defiance results in a court hearing where Sankey is grilled for 3 hours (some say intentionally embarrassed by the attorney's representing the "kids" (but really LSU). Yea, no way this just goes away. Today LSU could come out and say "we're sorry. We love the SEC. We won't play these guys, etc." If so, they would still be punished for what they've put the brand through. This is a lot more real than most realize, I'm afraid.

I don't disagree necessarily, but the SEC said no professional players can play. And this is determined by signing a professional contract. All members voted in support of this parameter, except LSU.

Came up yesterday that Michigan got kicked out of the Big10 in 1907 for playing more than 5 games and not abiding by the 3 years of eligibility rule. They re joined in 1917, thought that was interesting.

I think its like the Sorsby thing. People were pissed because he bet on games that he was directly involved with, not that he placed bets on games.

These players signed UFA contracts which meant they became professional football players. If a contract wasn't signed, then they were never professional. I know its splitting hairs but I think thats where most people fall on this issue.

Sheesh, what's next. An injunction that will allow a college Freshman that has his roster spot taken by a former NFL player, to return to his HS for a 5th season? Pandoras box is huge and is fully open. Thanks LSU.

minicamp guys who get cut are paid. It's a very small per diem plus travel and lodging. Is that considered professional? This is all very slippery slope stuff

same argument coukd be made....the rules changed after they left high school. What a mess. You.cant have a toe in both the amateur and professional pools. The NCAA is trying to do.that and it doesn't work.

LSU has no landing spot. There isn't a conference in the country that can take them and allow them to violate NCAA rules. Every single league adheres to those rules. LSU can thump their chests all they want to, but they are going to bend.

The only thing I can see this doing is that this starts a conversation about getting the rule changed. But for now, if LSU wants to play football, in any league, they are going to follow this rule.

(By the way, LSU isn't going to fill its stadium with XII fodder like Kansas State, Cincy, UCF and Baylor each week. Or ACC fodder like Duke, Wake, SMU, Cal and Stanford. Their fan base expects to play big time SEC schools each week.)

LSU agreed to the rule. They dissented to the punishment if rule was broken. I get it but I have a hard time believing that signing and just participating in Mini camps is that much different. NCAA screwed the pooch again when they didn't allow the class of 2022 to also have the 5 years to play 5 rule.

they are paid housing for out of town players only, and daily food and any travel needed to get to the facilities. it is only for 3 days.

because it was resolved. this is new and honestly I'm wondering if the Bama Basketball player that was ruled ineligible can be used to support the SEC. plus there was outrage but football always has more eyes. more eyes mire outrage.

The ACC won't. Stanford, Cal and Notre Dame are currently the Executive committee for the ACC(it rotates). No way they let LSU near the ACC.

This is incorrect. LSU also voted with the rest of the conference to not allow professional players. The vote they abstained from was the rule on the punishment if you did use an ineligible player.
