It's a game of chicken and LSU has a lot more to lose. If they can't get what they want through the courts, they'll cave before getting kicked out.

It's the dumbest game of chicken I have ever seen. usually if you play chicken there are some great rewards, but there are no rewards here for LSU, a couple of backup players. This is beyond stupid.

i saw somewhere that Lane was doing this to get Chambliss off the field against them. Now that is actually a solid outcome for LSU. But I don't think there is any chance of it occurring.

Lane and LSU have screwed themselves in more ways than just this present player battle.

Lanes ego is going to be his downfall at LSU.

I'd tell them this: If they fail to comply with conference rules then their FB program is declared ineligible for conference play for this season and all their games will count as 0-1 forfeits

I mean you can tell them that all you want, but doesn't mean anything.

The league already voted to allow punishments. The punishments have been outlined. A LSU, I mean Louisiana, judge successfully challenged those as impermissible.

And the slippery slope towards being NFL Lite continues to get more grease. Judges control this. And will continue. As we see with Trump, district judges get in the way of everything, even with Supreme Court decisions. There's no going back from this. We will see pros getting to play at this level going forward.

Did you miss the federal lawsuit was filed by the SEC?

Did you miss what occurred with Tech and Sorsby once the Big 12 filed in federal court?

Context helps.....and that's why I quoted the post I was replying to. I never said this was the end of the road and is what it is....I was replying to this, which is very different than what the SEC is actually doing. This currently holds no water

They need to prove Lane intentionally waited until Aug 23rd to gain an unfair advantage.

Again, this should be yet another Alarm going off for the leadership here to get the hell outta this mess of a conference. The SEC and Sankey flat out stabbed the Ags completely in the back--and no one else. Doing business with this conference is just letting their chosen powers continue to benefit from making you controlled opposition.

Replace LSU with Tulane, an original SEC member. My dad was class of 52 at Tulane. Grew up down the street from the old Sugar Bowl. He was head drum major for all four years!

More thsn likely you are correct. Unless Lane plays the TE tommorrow. At that point, LSU has crossed the Rubicon. Some Presidents are really chapped. All it takes is one of them to demand a vote.

This is more than just allowing pro players back for another year. The strength of the SEC has been the unity of the conference. When you have one school go against the wishes of 15 and they get away with it, there will be no end to the ****e we will see from certain schools.

Got to nip this in the bud.

If just one single school has the guts to simply say, "we're not playing them with these NFL cast-offs on the roster", the whole issue would die a quick death. Every other school would follow, and LSU would cave.

Come on Clemson, you're first. As a matter or principle, pull the plug.

Think of this from the perspective (and priorities) of the SEC. What's the most important thing? Of course it's MONEY. Forfeiting games will represent lost MONEY as networks will need to be made whole and schools will have lost gameday revenue - very undesirable. LSU surely knows that this penalty won't happen.

Levying fines against LSU represents the best case - the conference gets MONEY and is still able to fulfill contracts with the networks. Severely hamstringing the LSU football program through lost scholarships, coaching suspensions, etc. would also be secondarily acceptable to the conference.

Too many problems with this.

So Johnny goes pro with 2 years left, plays several seasons in NFL and then decides to take a victory lap because Aggies will pay him 30MM a year to play a few seasons for them....this ok?

That will never happen. Can't not play games. Isolate it to Baton Rouge.

They took their shot at the NFL, and some didn't make it.
Tuff sh*t, deal with it, that's life.

And it's not like they're out of options.
Leave the door open to the FCS schools. It's not the big stage, and not the big NIL, but it's a shot to continue to showcase their talents and make another run at the NFL

What an odd thing to sprinkle into a football discussion. Courts interpret and uphold the law, that's the judiciary's role. You know, separation of powers to prevent tyranny and all that jazz the founding fathers cared about. Change the channel every once in a while.

Regardless of how you feel about NFL players playing college football, this is now a conference member that is refusing to abide by league rules!

The other members have voted and agreed. It's not like this is a split decision! It's unanimous. Yet LSU is giving the league the middle finger.

Toss them.

Dude the SEC is about championships and dollars. You think in the grand scheme of things the SEC gives two shts about LSU and its bad boy reputation. You think replacing LSU with Tulane or Clemson is a win for the conference? Come on...

What is the lsu endgame here. You have a 50 million dollar roster and are risking all this for two players? That seems crazy to me. They have to have something else in mind. And with Kiffin, Louisiana politicians and judges there is no telling what that is.

My question is why aren't more people upset with Missouri and Texas bringing in guys who were in NFL mini camps but actually never signed? Their intentions were to become NFL players and go the process as well. They fall under this 5 years to play 5 rule too

I don't disagree necessarily, but the SEC said no professional players can play. And this is determined by signing a professional contract. All members voted in support of this parameter, except LSU.

LSU agreed to the rule. They dissented to the punishment if rule was broken. I get it but I have a hard time believing that signing and just participating in Mini camps is that much different. NCAA screwed the pooch again when they didn't allow the class of 2022 to also have the 5 years to play 5 rule.

This right here. The NCAA should have allowed the Class of '22 a 5th year as well. I'm sure they had their reasons, but it would have avoided all of this. I'm okay with them coming back in theory. They may have stayed if they knew, but they didn't have a choice. Now, if a player has the 5th year option in the future and decides to go to try for the NFL and doesn't work out? Too bad, so sad…you're NOT coming back.

What I have a huge problem with is LSU and Kiffin defying the SEC rule and thumbing their nose at everyone. That should is just wrong and idiotic.

It's not just Lane. Wade with men's hoops has done something similar. It is clear that LSU's athletic administration and the men's coaches all decided to go this path months ago.

he/they had the idea early summer but sat on it untill two weeks before kickoff. He was trying to gain an advantage at the last second. If it doesn't work out for them, do you think they will continue to pursue this and try again next year?
