Next year will be more clear on who is eligible and who is not. The NCAA passed the 5 for 5 rule in June, which meant these players were already pursuing the NFL at the time because it was their only option.
Next year, only the class of 2023 will be eligible for a 5th season, anyone leaving after year 4 for the NFL will forgo their fifth season in college and will be ineligible to return.

Only wanted to ask thoughts on why the NCAA and SEC aren't even addressing that if LSU's argument is valid, then these players transferred schools without entering the transfer portal. Wouldn't that be a much clearer violation by both the school asks athletes?

Don't apologize for jumping in. That's what these boards are for, even though you're a sip. lol

You have a valid point and I can see that argument. LSU would argue they left Ole Miss and went to the NFL this severing their ties with the school. It's not as clear as the Dabo kerfuffle when Ole Miss directly tampered with one of his players and he called them out on it.

Which brings me to another point. LSU and Kiffin also violated rules if they reached out to these NFL players and "recruited" them, which both parties deny. I heard on Sirius XM College Sports that there is someone in authority who stated if these NFL players play even one snap, they are going to do a deep investigation, including deposing LSU, Kiffin, and the players. When they find evidence that LSU and Kiffin tampered with these players and recruited them, there is an additional punishment option on the table~Not kicking LSU directly out of the SEC, but banning Kiffin from being a head coach. I think this direct shot at Kiffin and his ego may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Because of the timing of everything. The NCAA changing the rules in June opened everything up. They should have done it earlier or this fall. But since when did the NCAA every doing anything competently?

they didn't enter the transfer portal because they had already played 4 years. they could not enter the portal.

I never understood why Tech was accused of ruining college football because they suspended a player who they found out gambled while playing for another team and that player went to a judge for an injunction against tech's and the NCAAs ruling. How did the previous teams avoid scrutiny for actually playing him while he was gambling but Tech (the team that suspended him and notified the NCAA) get all the hate?

That's my point. Kiffy is creating huge drama for a couple of players for one year. Seems like his real reason is to simple be a d!ck or to try and gain a little advantage in hopes other teams on his schedule they could lose to won't try the same. It may be the dumbest thing I've seen from a CFB coach ever.

Your post is full of revisionist history. Technical fully 100% had him on the roster, was defending it, and absolutely intended him to be on the team and play. Not only was this message from the coach and team but the AD and U Prez as wells. It was not until the Big 12 sued them that they took measures to walk back their stance and have it end like it did.

As for lsu, the SEC is being stupid. They just need to say lsu is free to roster those players but per SEC rules they are ineligible for SEC competition and any game they participate in will be recorded as a forfeit loss for lsu. Period, end of discussion. Sankey and the SEC office are in total agreement on this and have the backing of 15 of the 16 schools.

If playoff goes to 24 teams, then stay at 15, have three (3) 5-team divisions/pods and you rotate 9 game schedule every year, play each school home & away every 4 years. Three division winners automatically make playoffs, lots of common scheduling to slot conference the at least 5 other at-large teams from SEC. I would imagine the SEC and B1G would demand at least 8 teams each so that leaves 8 teams between Big 12, ACC, ND, and G6 schools

Everyone hates Sankey but he is fighting for SEC with every available resource at his disposal. The stakes are extremely high. This will determine if the conference is in control or individual schools. If LSU wins here that will be a precedent for the horns to do whatever they like.

I think he's doing a great job but there are a lot of people here who complain about him constantly. These people seem to have no clue how high the stakes are right now.
