How would we be in the top 3 toughest places to play?

Ask Nick Saban why he says A&M is the hardest place to play in CFB.

When you realize there are more factors to winning football games than the venue (like quality of coaches and players on the field) maybe you'll finally get it.

The sips and Hurricanes have no issues winning at Kyle Field

Wow, 2 games in 2 years. Great argument.

Saban was 4-1 at Kyle Field, yet he still said what he said. Why is that?

I think many of you don't actually understand what "toughest places to play" means.

Never mind we also beat a ranked Hurricanes team the previous time they came to Kyle. We also lost to them in Miami a couple years ago in front of a half empty stadium. Maybe Hard Rock should be ahead of Kyle Field according to your metric.

I think this is a good way to look at it, but this is mostly just a list of all the winningest teams in their respective conferences since 2000. Naturally the teams with the highest overall win % will also have the highest home win %.

I think there's two components to consider when looking at this topic..

Loudest and winning.

Kyle is freaking loud, as loud as it gets. The winning percentage, is not as high as the bluebloods with all the talent, aka Bama, UGa, and Ohio State as examples, but those places aren't as loud as Kyle, Tiger Stadium, Autzen, or Neyland. Husky Stadium in Washington and Beaver Stadium at Penn State are also loud. Auburn, Va Tech, and South Carolina are sneaky loud, too.

So if toughest is about noise and crowds, Kyle deserves to be near the top for sure. If it's about winning at home, it doesn't.

I was there in Miami. It was not "half empty" by any stretch. More importantly, it was a day game, it rained on top of it being hot as balls. Miami fans suck and aren't on our level but, half empty is not accurate at all

I've been to several games at Autzen (lived in Eugene 2020-2025) and while it is a "rowdy?" atmosphere the noise doesn't hold up to the bigger stadiums. The loudest part of a typical game is when they do "Shout!" after the 3rd quarter break.

That being said, my house was about a half-mile north of the stadium and they did seem pretty loud during their inaugural B1G run when Ohio State was there. I could hear they crowd from my living room during Shout and also during the end of the game when they squeezed out the slightly controversial win.

I believe what makes it special in terms of noise is how loud it gets at field level. The stadium's weird architectural design was done on purpose to funnel noise straight down to the field. So if I'm not mistaken, the noise is average in the stands, but top tier on the field

Due to the configuration of Kyle, much of the crowd noise does not reach the field

The new "toughest places to play" rankings just released for CFB27 video game, and Kyle Field is ranked #10 behind:

1. LSU
2. OSU
3. PSU
4. UGA
5. Bama
6. Oregon
7. Florida
8. Tennessee
9. Clemson

This is a horrendous ranking. Get OSU and Clemson out of the top 10 and reshuffle the rest.

Got to agree with the list. New Army sucks!

Atmosphere? Top 3 for sure
Loudness? Top 3 for sure
Toughest to win there? Top 15

So I'd put us around that 7-8 range

DJ started in 2015.

I wouldn't say we were tough for those previous 10-15 years or so

it changes as you play, if you create a powerhouse with A&M then you'll see it bumped to #1.

I think the criteria for toughest places includes crowd noise and home winning percentage. Kyle Field is routinely ranked among the top college football venues for crowd noise. Kyle Field has an officially recorded peak of 126 dB, but its immense size (over 102,000 capacity) creates a wall of continuous noise that opposing players and coaches frequently cite as the loudest environment they have ever played. The stadium is specifically designed with deep, multi-level overhangs and steep angles that trap and redirect crowd noise directly onto the field

We had struggled in SEC home games before 2018. Kevin Sumlin went 8-14 (0.364) in SEC home games between 2012 to 2017, including a 7-game home losing to SEC west teams at the end of his tenure. However, we are 22-7 (0.758) in SEC home games since 2018, 16-6 (0.727) under Jimbo Fisher from 2018 to 2023, and 6-1 (0.858) under Mike Elko, since 2018.

Since 2018, we are 48-11 (0.814) in home games, and that ranks 12th. We had lost more than 2 home games in just 1 of those 8 years, and that was when we went 4-3 in home games in 2022, including a very embarrassing 17-14 home loss to Appalachian State. Therefore, I think Kyle Field should rank as the 7th or 8th toughest place to play.

When we used to actually engage the 12th Man and Former Students with LOUD YELLS, we were the #1 Toughest place to play in the nation.

But since we've had a bunch of p*ssies take over that want to take away our unique and proud traditions with "the dj", we have fallen massively in identity and home-field advantage.

So just discount two of the most important games at Kyle Field in recent history ? The atmosphere is so tough that the Aggies scored a total of 10 points on those two games.

You can add the home loss to ND to that, Aggies managed to score 13 points in that one.

Kyle Field is indeed loud, not debating that.

I wonder if it's possible that they took several different factors into account to create this ranking for the video game... Things like polling coaching staffs and personnel, home winning %, etc. That would be wild.

I see what you did there

I got curious
Hard Rock Staidum capacity 65,326 (for football games)
Miami vs A&M 48,792 (2023)

regarding LSU...

look at it like this:

the Tigers went 7-6 last year -- were not very good

but still managed 6-1 home record

When playing at home in Kyle Field, we held our opponents down to the lowest 3rd down conversion rate in all of FBS (#1 out of 138 teams) at a mere 15% conversion rate.

When playing on the road, the Aggies held their opponents to a 35% 3rd down conversion rate (#26 in FBS).

Therefore the home field advantage for our defense implies a +20% advantage in preventing 3rd down conversions to opponents.

I think this is a meaningful statistic since 3rd down is when the crowd is loudest. Opponents have a tough time converting 3rd down at Kyle to say the least.
