Go cry into your pillow instead of having a tantrum on a public forum. You're what's wrong with this fan base.

8-4 to 11-2 in year 2 is progress, done mostly with kids recruited by the previous coach. Reed improved. Our run game and run defense still needs work. Everyone wants instant championships and most of the time, it takes a little time. We are still climbing the mountain.

It won't be like this next year more than likely. We will see what happens.

Today sucked ass, but we went from 8-5 or worse the last few years to 11-1 and one of 12 teams in the playoffs.

Some of you are just insufferable.

Absolutely - anyone remember the pimp cane at UCLA? culture has been an issue for years and I really believe Elko has given us an identity (you can hear it in player interviews)... I'm disappointed, but excited for the future (and you can't be disappointed if you didn't have a reason to have your hopes up in the first place!)

That was ages ago with Sumlin though

My point exactly...

  • Franchione - couldn't have looked more out of touch, even getting blown out 77-0... runs an unsanctioned newsletter on the side...
  • Sherman - I do think he needed another year, but same thing - was a "satisfied" coach not really pushing
  • Sumlin - great first year, but the DJ, nightclub (Jimbo words), pimp cane culture doesn't build long term success
  • Fisher - was going to do it his way whether it worked or not (halftime adjustments anyone?). Even handcuffed a brilliant OC after hiring him
Now Elko is here and is building for the long term... the foundation takes time and all the folks here clamoring for a change after making the freaking CFP in year 2 with a solid culture of what is expected (players aren't getting arrested all the time, bringing in solid recruits with an understanding of committment, portal players wanting to come here...) there is a lot to be happy about in year 2...

In the last 30 years, we have had exactly 2 double-digit win seasons...

I'm not trying to be insufferable

We got helped by a very soft schedule, 11-1 is great, but who did we beat besides Notre dame. I do think these next two years will tell us who Elko is and if all depends on Wiggins and that new dc.

Jury is still out on elko. Average season last year, good season, but soft schedule this year. I'm still not sure if we wouldn't have been better off with fisher and all that contract payout money spent on nil.

If you would have told anyone before the season started how this would have played out I think everyone would be doing a massive fist bump. Elko overachieved to our preseason expectations, and took a squad that everyone thought was mediocre to the playoffs.

Still though, the signs of this team being not championship caliber were there all season. We weren't blowing the doors off of the likes of Mississippi State and Auburn, and we had the same late season collapse we had the year before, only we recovered somewhat against South Carolina but that shouldn't have ever happened. We let Arch Manning run up the gut. We don't yet have the personnel to make this team elite, but we took a very average 2024 squad and upgraded it to a solid and somewhat lucky with schedule 2025 squad. Hopefully we take another step forward next season.

I think Elko is the guy. He's not a bull****ter, he does the work, and he has improved every year since he started here. And the great thing about what he's done is that playoffs are now an expectation, and winning is the next expected step.

Damn right.

I think too many folks powerchugged the koolaid about how good this team was… ignoring the clear flaws that everyone not wearing maroon saw…. So the disappointment was greater.

But, overall, still a positive step. Just not a leap.

No one would have been thrilled if you said we win 11 games but lose to tu and weak Miami team at home. Its better than 8-4 and an incremental improvement but still a disappointment given what could have been. What happens next year will tell the tale but this could have been a great opportunity.

Elko did a great job this year but expecting the playoffs is a bit of misguided enthusiasm.

There are exceptions such as Indiana but Tech is not one.
McGuire has been there since 22 so this is his 4th year. Take a breath and let this thing play out.

A&M as a program should absolutely expect greatness. We are overwhelmingly underachievers given our resources. So were the Cubs, so were the Red Sox, and they got their hardware with a longer drought than ours. That is the expectation here. If you want to guard your heart due to BAS, I totally get it. But the reality is that our program has the resources to be excellent, and finally has a coach that is walking the walk of what excellence means in the February. We got some monkey's off of our back this season. Winning a top 10 matchup on the road. Pantsing LSU in Baton Rouge. We have more to get off of our back. I think Elko is the guy to do it.

This was Elko's "peak" year. The over/under on his remaining years in Aggieland is probably somewhere between 2-3. Next year will regress with a much more difficult schedule. Manning is looking much better, as of late, and will probably rip the team a new one at Kyle field to finish up a bad year on a low note. He will get one more year after that, and if it's 8-4 at that point, he's shown the door.

That mid-year extension was really effing stupid.

My thoughts exactly. We gave out another stupid-ass extension for winning nothing, again. We are the biggest suckers out there! We then proceed to squander the best opportunity we'll see for the foreseeable future to win a conference or national championship. This just feels like the beginning of the end for Elko at A&M. He's shown that his teams fold when the chips are down.

I really hope I'm wrong

Yeah. We shouldn't expect to rival what Indiana has done. That's something that only special schools with special coaches achieve. Like Indiana. We need to be realistic and manage expectations.

But Elko has this program trending upward and there is nothing any of you can do about it.

Good lord stop with the doom and gloom crybaby BS. We are sitting well in recruiting and have done well in the portal. We have deeper pockets than the vast majority of schools. It's just dumb to assume we're going to regress to 8-4 because of schedule. They said the same thing this season because of our slated schedule. How'd that turn out?

OK. Let's check back in 2 years and see! After 50 years, the constant sunshine pumping, "just wait until next year" crap just gets old.
To be fair, this year we didn't have to 'wait until next year'. We went 11-2 and made the playoffs.

We did take care of business against teams that may not be awesome wins but are ones we just didn't get done in previous seasons. That in and of itself can't be taken for granted when you've been through what we've been through. But yeah we did not finish strong.

Ya'll posting that"Elko needs to go" are trolling or just plain stupid... He's the real deal and I'm glad he was extended.

I do think that no matter how much integrity you have (and I do think Klein does), it is just not possible to be a coordinator or head coach that has signed with a new school to continue to pour everything into the previous school - just not human nature. Sign with the new school, head on over and get started - no hard feelings. Any good team will be poached for coaches...

Great season - super disappointed ending - that's sports (cue the Antetokounmpo presser).. I'm pissed and frustrated as well, but damn - what a great season.

It was a good season. Elko should definitely not be fired, but the extension is more stupidity from Aggie leadership. Extending 6 years at $11 million per year after going 9-0 against a very soft schedule was the same type of Aggie stupidity that led to the Jimbo contract. If Elko had done something special this year, then give him an extension at the end of the year. This year was not special. Good, but not special. Definitely NOT contract extension worthy given the competition we played this year. One win (and an extremely close one) against a good team.

The convo with elko should have been: "the goal is to win the SEC or a playoff game. Do that and we'll take care of you after the season"
