If you would have told anyone before the season started how this would have played out I think everyone would be doing a massive fist bump. Elko overachieved to our preseason expectations, and took a squad that everyone thought was mediocre to the playoffs.

Still though, the signs of this team being not championship caliber were there all season. We weren't blowing the doors off of the likes of Mississippi State and Auburn, and we had the same late season collapse we had the year before, only we recovered somewhat against South Carolina but that shouldn't have ever happened. We let Arch Manning run up the gut. We don't yet have the personnel to make this team elite, but we took a very average 2024 squad and upgraded it to a solid and somewhat lucky with schedule 2025 squad. Hopefully we take another step forward next season.

I think Elko is the guy. He's not a bull****ter, he does the work, and he has improved every year since he started here. And the great thing about what he's done is that playoffs are now an expectation, and winning is the next expected step.

I think too many folks powerchugged the koolaid about how good this team was… ignoring the clear flaws that everyone not wearing maroon saw…. So the disappointment was greater.

I like Elko and I hope he turns it around.

My only beef is with us extending- it's dumb.

Elko has accomplished nothing and got lucky with an easy schedule. He'll be gone after many more 8-4 or worse years. Highly unlikely we make it back to the playoff. The adminostration can't hire a real coach to save their lives.

He was actually a mediocre DC (couldn't teach how to tackle), and mediocre HC, who successfully took us through year 86 of mediocrity. Expect the same for next year with him as HC and Wiggins as OC !

Elko is the winnings 2 season HC in the history of this school. That doesn't make him Saban. But in his first 2 years, he is by far the best coach ever seen at A&M.

Sumlin won more and lost less. 11-2 + 9-4 = 20-6. Elko did 8-5 + 11-2 = 19-7.

Point is very small samples mean nothing. Is elko legit or is this a one time blip due to a veteran OL and ridiculous scheduling luck? We don't know yet. I wish we'd taken a little time to find out before trotting out a top 5 pay package for him.

I'm a little worried that Duke won a championship after he left.

It was a crazy deal but they still won conference after he left.

The extension was to head off the coaching carousel. Had that not happened, I doubt we see an extension.

Agree. I also am extremely concerned about the OC and QB coach situation.

We are a top 10 program as far as resources and we promote someone whose name has never been mentioned by another program for consideration as OC?!

I'm doubtful Elko will make the change in QB and we'll be changing HC in 2028.

This isn't necessarily a problem.
