Guys, Marcel was misused because of his physical attributes. He's not a big, durable looking QB. The rest of the QB room sucks so the offense was designed to protect him with the roll out, drop back style. If a more QB run scheme was employed, we would be 1 hit away from having nothing at QB. Granted, the QB is one hit away in any offensive scheme but you get the point about not exposing the QB to more.
If it were me, I would go to a more old school attack that was more run oriented, think modern versions of the flexbone, wing-T, or plain old veer and take advantage of the current clock rules. Focus on the OL, and WR who will block well, and catch the ball on the play action game. Get RB s who can catch when you need to spread it out. Run, run, and take a shot every 6 plays, and feature an offense that moves the chains, protects the defense, and works the clock. Noticed throughout the season that most defenses don't rally to the ball, they dont hit and wrap up, and it's mostly arm tackles. Thats why there are so many big plays. Have a great defense and be the most physical, best coached team on the field. That's a recipe for a 9+ win regular season every year with many being better.
Fire away!
