Let's see where it ranks at the end of the season…if we are 8-4 again it won't rank that high, but if we are 10-2 and make a run in the playoffs I would say it's high up there

so so many. maybe the most improbable/high degree of difficulty was the Mond to Davis 35yd TD pass with 0:00 left against LSU.

It wasnt a hail mary or a desperation heave. It was a bullet with an unbelievable degree of difficulty for BOTH the pass and catch (and between multiole defenders including one of the top rated DBs in the country.

And it was AFTER we "already lost".

And it was the last game of the regular season for ALL of college football, and set a record that necessitated the way OTs are handled.

And against a hated rival who had our number since entering the SEC.

There's many great plays but how many game winners?

McNeil to Porter. Fantastic. Not the game winner but it certainly helped
That was my favorite. Unfortunately I was in the end zone third level and couldn't see the back of the end zone. I just saw the ball disappear and the crowd went nuts!

For me, it was the best play and the best game in my 3/4 of a Century.

It was amazing. It's not necessary to rank everything.

Of course not. But it's nice to see all the other contenders.

Johnny Football "oh my gracious"

We're up 14-0, and Verne Lundquist was just certain that Bama, and reality, had finally reasserted itself when the ball got knocked loose from Johnny's hands. He says, with noticeable satisfaction, "Yep, got 'em . . . OH MY GRACIOUS!"

So, so sweet.

Yeah, or Hargett to Bob Long to beat tu in '67. The young folk here need to study history if they're gonna play "best ever."

Or maybe best non-play. E King Gill suiting up for the game against Centre College.

Besides anything JFF did...

The most clutch play was the game tying touchdown from Mond on the LSU 7 OT game at Kyle.

The Kansas St game, That was a play to get us into FG range...

Agreed! There are many great memories in Aggie football history.

My heart stopping favorite: In September 1970, Hugh McElroy caught the game-winning pass from quarterback Lex James with 13 seconds left to score a 79-yard touchdown run against LSU, AT LSU's Death Valley.

What I didn't know (or didn't remember) was that he was not even expecting to get the ball he ran what was supposed to be a decoy pattern, turned inside, then caught the pass and spun out toward the sideline before sprinting for the end zone. 79 YARDS WITH 13 SECONDS TO GO AT DEATH VALLEY!

Chat GPT adds (for all you young whippersnappers)
His broader role & significance
He was Texas A&M's first African-American to start on the football team.
Also became A&M's first black player to score a touchdown and it was this one vs. LSU.
He had walked onto the team (i.e. was not initially on scholarship) and had been a track athlete before getting more playing time in football.
The touchdown catch was his first ever touchdown in his A&M football career.

My vote is for the "Texas Special" (1965)
  • Context:
In 1965, Texas A&M, under coach Gene Stallings, pulled off a clever trick play against their archrival, the Texas Longhorns.
  • The Play:
The play involved quarterback Harry Ledbetter tossing a short flare pass to flanker Jim Kauffman. Kauffman let the ball hit the ground and skip, then caught it, appearing to be disgusted with what seemed like an incomplete pass.
  • The Deception:
The defenders, unaware the pass was a lateral, did not realize the play was still live. Texas coach Darrell Royal had been tipped off by Stallings, who alerted officials to be ready for an inadvertent whistle.
  • The Result:
Kauffman then sprinted downfield for the longest pass play in Texas A&M history at the time, a 91-yard touchdown.

Texas Special, a.k.a. The Aw Shucks play.

I had never seen it until just now. Dad talked about it and saw it in person.

The ball was on the 19.
Still incredible but it wasn't a 35 yard bullet.
See? This is the problem with threads like this. Embellished memories.

I agree with Looch that it is top 3 to end a game... 1) Sirr in 98, 2) Everett INT to secure Bama, 3) 4th and Goal ND win.

Strip sack in the Bonfire Game.

I'm surprised this post got so few stars, but then I remember how long ago it was.

This is the correct answer. The entire campus, and every Aggie out there badly needed this win to put some sort of separation between ourselves and the fact that one of our best traditions had resulted in the death of 12 young people. This game also forever altered the rivalry, with the sips showing that they could be classy, and they understood we were hurting. Brian Gamble on his knees with his arms raised to the sky could be the A&M version of Jerry West as the NBA logo for my money.

Yes. It was on my birthday, and it was the first full Aggie game I've seen since JFF. Nothing better than seeing kids learning how to win against extreme adversity. The new pass catchers plus, OL, plus Reed being Reed was fun to see. We saw some great baseball games last season too. I can enjoy a play or a game without concern about the next play, or game, or season. Someone would have to pay me head coach money for me to worry about that.

I can't decide between these 2:

"HE GOT A TOUCHDOWN! x 4.
HE GOT IT IN! x 3.
Oh DOCTOR!"

"Snap from Patrick Lewis. 4 man Alabama rush. Got him!"
"No they don't."
"No they didn't! OH MY GRACIOUS!"

Saying our greatest ever play is from a game we lost (Toombs) is Aggie as it gets.

Yep the "Battle Of The Brazos" was awesome. I will say that the Reed to Boerkircher connection was the most impactful play for the last decade.

Aggie football has been wandering in the wilderness for a long time.

No, but it should be among the 10 greatest Aggie plays, especially in a night road game.

12 yard flip to a big bodied tight end who won inside. Hardly the greatest . Routine stuff .

Cravers big play down the sideline was much better , it just didn't come at as critical a time . Had exactly the same impact on the W tho.

Honestly, it was insane in the moment, no doubt. Reeds' TD had everything, clutch, high stakes, and total drama. But "greatest ever"? That's tough, Aggies have had some legendary plays over the years. I'd say it's definitely up there in the top 5 for sure.

The Kansas State play, was a slant to get into better FG range...

Mond and Reed were THE LAST PLAY of the game...

i didn't embellish anything- i was describing the pass in saying it wasnt a hail mary heave, but a 35 yard bullet between several defenders.

Mond threw it 8 yards deep in the end zone from the 25yd line- 33 yards.

Oh sorry for casually aproximating it to 35 like anyone would do.

Are you really this much of an ass at home???

oh, and by the way. most here understand that you cant rifle a bullet pass 50 yards, which you'd have to do if you r LOS was the 35.
