Just heard it on the news in SA. I remember that team vividly, as I was 10 years old and got to go into the locker room after the 10-7 win over the sips that year that sent the team to the Cotton Bowl against Bama. I was a wide-eyed youngster as my heroes, Ed Hargett, Bob Long, and Bill Hobbs took me around the room and personally introduced me to all of the players on the team. It was the defining moment for me with regards to Texas A&M football. For you younger Ags, Bill was Dat before Dat, he was Ed Simonini before Ed, he was Robert Jackson before Robert. He began the tradition of LB at Texas A&M.

And for a 20 year old college football player to take a kid thru a tour of the locker room right after beating the hated longhorns, he was a god to me that day.

He will be missed by those whose lives he touched.

I was a freshman in the Corps and got to watch Hobbs run back an interception 100 yards to beat TCU in 1967. He was incredible.

He lived a wild life at A&M and in the pros, but became a Christian at some point and spoke on campus quite a few times when I was a student. I last saw him a couple of years ago at the Amarillo A&M club golf tourney. He worked for a inner city minstry in Amarillo at the time. Like others have said- he was a great Ag, but his legacy is more than that.

It's a hard day for me. Billy is one of my friends and a brother in ministry. I just returned from Sao Paulo, Brazil on a mission trip with Billy and his wife, Kristi (class of '90). While there, he shared his faith in Christ with the Sao Paulo Lusa, a professional soccer team. The entire team of 50 players gave their hearts to Christ because of Billy's sharing the love of God with them. Pray for Kristi and his family. This pastor will preach with a smile tomorrow because I know where Billy is at! If he could speak to you now, he would tell you about the love of Christ. Next, he would look you straight in the eye and ask you, "Do you know for sure that you are going to heaven?"

I remember Billy. Haven't heard much recently but obviously he found Christ. Mr prayers are with the family. Class '66

Several years ago Tommy Maxwell told me how Billy had turned his life over to Christ and the ministry. I feel good for him that he continued that life to the end but sorry it was so soon.

Here. The 67 team remains my all time favorite team and BH was my favorite player from that team. We had suffered thru so many of the 1-9 type seasons before Hobbs, Hargett, Long, Maxwell, & co. I believe that there were several off of that team that later went into the gospel ministry.
