Postseason softball returns to Aggieland as A&M earns No. 15 overall seed
Trisha Ford’s Aggies are hosting!
During Sunday's NCAA Selection Show, Texas A&M softball was selected as the No. 15 overall seed, hosting the 2026 Bryan-College Station Regional.
A&M will host Arizona State, McNeese and UConn beginning on Friday, May 15, at Davis Diamond.
Aggieland is paired with the Austin Regional, which features No. 2 national seed Texas, Wisconsin, Baylor and Wagner. The two victors will meet for a best-of-three super regional with a trip to Oklahoma City on the line, the weekend of May 21-23 in Austin.
The NCAA seeding looks a little different this year, following in the footsteps of volleyball and soccer. By seeding the top 32 teams, the new method should help reward the top seeds with “easier” draws.
As the No. 15 national seed, A&M is one of four No. 4 seeds.
Sitting at 36-17 and 16-8 in SEC play, it will be the 24th consecutive year A&M softball is dancing.
At 17 in RPI, the Aggies had their share of ups and downs against the seventh-toughest schedule in the country.
From March 18 to April 19, their RPI surged from No. 29 to No. 11, appearing to be heating up at the right time.
However, A&M dropped its final two SEC series against then-No. 24 South Carolina and No. 3 national seed Oklahoma, as well as an SEC Tournament contest vs. Auburn.
Back in the Big Dance for a 23rd consecutive season, the postseason berth serves as an opportunity for the Maroon & White to erase memories of NCAA Tournament terror they have seen in recent years under Ford.
The Ags are only a season removed from being the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed in 2025 when they failed to make it out of their own regional.
In 2024, the Aggies’ season ended in a heartbreakingly close Austin Super Regional. In 2023, the Longhorns got the best of them during the first weekend.
In her four years in Aggieland, Ford’s teams have never reached the Women’s College World Series, but no better time than now to make noise.
In a season defined by parity, there is no clear frontrunner to take it all.
With the lineup consistently doing its part all season, the Aggie pitching staff could ultimately decide how far this team goes.
