Instead of giving a coach salary increases for doing good, how about we start decreasing salaries when they under perform?

Texas had the #1 recruiting class in the Big 12 from 2019 (as far back as I checked) through 2023. During that timeframe, it had 3 classes in the national top 5 and another in the national top 10. Its first year in the SEC (2024) it had the #1 class in the country. Its most recent class was ranked #3 (by Rivals). We like to pretend a national bias favors them, but they've now been in the national title hunt for the past two years and in our coach's own words "physically annihilated us" a few weeks ago.Jack Boyette said:texag101 said:Texas wasn't recruiting 8th (last year) and 5th (this year) in their own conference (like us).Aggie Dad Sip said:

This is a stupid, nonsensical comparison. In Sarkisian's transition year and his first full class, the recruiting was absolutely on par with ours in the same comparison.

Yeah, they've recruited well.
But more importantly they have retained them, and developed them into legit NFL draft prospects.
Last year they had 11 players get drafted
(we had 4).
This year they may have 15+
(we may have 3)
This is where we've grossly underperformed.
We haven't EVER had that many NFL talents in any given year.
Yet the true contenders put in 10+ with consistency.
We act like we should be winning and competing w those teams, even though we've never been built like one of those teams. Ever.

Other major programs will be looking for DCs as well. Oklahoma, FSU, and maybe Clemson to name a few. I would rather get our 1st choice if we are going to make a move. Make it happen Coach.

No smoke and no announcement today. That's telling. How can anyone expect things will improve on that side of the ball? You tell me

Agreed.
The closest we have been was 2012 who had 6 draft picks the following year and a hall of fame WR with a heisman QB throwing to him drafted the next year.
Basically, 25 straight years where we didn't have a national championship roster. 1 out of 25 had an outside chance, but ultimately only had 10 total draft picks over 3 years when teams like bama had about 30 during that same stretch.
Surprisingly the most we have had was in 2019 draft, following Jimbo's first year of 9-4. Which is why I laugh at those acting like Elko took over a better first year situation. Any sane person should easily take jimbo's first year roster with 7 draft picks. Somehow, Sumlin actually built towards this with mostly 3 star guys outside of Mack. The problem? We followed that up with 2 the next year. So once again, 9 over two seasons when teams like Bama had 20+. For example, during this same 2 year stretch, freaking Mississippi State had 10.

Add Maimi to the list of top tier programs looking for a DC.

Also add Clemson to the list of those in need of a DC

Bateman must go. You can't come out and say we can't defend a forward pass but keep the DC. Otherwise, this is 110% on Elko and the noose tightens if the defense doesn't look completely different next year
