Instead of giving a coach salary increases for doing good, how about we start decreasing salaries when they under perform?
Sure! Let us know how that works out.

If you're negative all the time, you're more like to be right than wrong. Most coaches everywhere are fired long before they sniff a championship.

It isn't exactly something to brag about or act like you are smarter than others. Anyone can be negative at the first sign of adversity. If I wanted to be a total dewsh and just play the odds and be negative all the time, I'd have a better chance of being right in the end. But in reality, I'd still be guessing and projecting things I cannot possibly know

But the same posters claiming they knew from year one those guys weren't going to get it done would be saying the same thing about almost every elite coach in the game during their first year in the last 10 years sans 1-2 examples like maybe a Dan Lanning.

I think I'll just post this randomly when he comes up. Bateman was 5-35 as a head coach. He should never have been hired and goes entirely against the philosophy that Elko spoke about when he summarized the recruiting effort.

Texas wasn't recruiting 8th (last year) and 5th (this year) in their own conference (like us).

This is a stupid, nonsensical comparison. In Sarkisian's transition year and his first full class, the recruiting was absolutely on par with ours in the same comparison.
Texas had the #1 recruiting class in the Big 12 from 2019 (as far back as I checked) through 2023. During that timeframe, it had 3 classes in the national top 5 and another in the national top 10. Its first year in the SEC (2024) it had the #1 class in the country. Its most recent class was ranked #3 (by Rivals). We like to pretend a national bias favors them, but they've now been in the national title hunt for the past two years and in our coach's own words "physically annihilated us" a few weeks ago.

This is stupid. Only if the DC went rogue should he be fired. The HC is the one that should be canned, demoted ….whatever.

Yeah, they've recruited well.
But more importantly they have retained them, and developed them into legit NFL draft prospects.

Last year they had 11 players get drafted
(we had 4).
This year they may have 15+
(we may have 3)

This is where we've grossly underperformed.
We haven't EVER had that many NFL talents in any given year.

Yet the true contenders put in 10+ with consistency.
We act like we should be winning and competing w those teams, even though we've never been built like one of those teams. Ever.

Other major programs will be looking for DCs as well. Oklahoma, FSU, and maybe Clemson to name a few. I would rather get our 1st choice if we are going to make a move. Make it happen Coach.

Add Maimi to the list of top tier programs looking for a DC.

Agreed.

The closest we have been was 2012 who had 6 draft picks the following year and a hall of fame WR with a heisman QB throwing to him drafted the next year.

Basically, 25 straight years where we didn't have a national championship roster. 1 out of 25 had an outside chance, but ultimately only had 10 total draft picks over 3 years when teams like bama had about 30 during that same stretch.

Surprisingly the most we have had was in 2019 draft, following Jimbo's first year of 9-4. Which is why I laugh at those acting like Elko took over a better first year situation. Any sane person should easily take jimbo's first year roster with 7 draft picks. Somehow, Sumlin actually built towards this with mostly 3 star guys outside of Mack. The problem? We followed that up with 2 the next year. So once again, 9 over two seasons when teams like Bama had 20+. For example, during this same 2 year stretch, freaking Mississippi State had 10.

Yessir.
We're not even at a Penn St level yet, let alone the top level. Those guys have been putting in 6 or 7 pretty consistently. Living in the shadow of Mich and OhSt.

TCU put in 8-ish the year they got thrashed in the Champ game, but that looks to have been a 1-time anomaly

Elko honestly needs to can his OC and DC. Usually not a good thing after year 1 for a HC.

99% sure Elko calls the defense next year. Offense will be better because Reed fits Klein's scheme better. A chance that one coordinator position will open up.

Bateman must go. You can't come out and say we can't defend a forward pass but keep the DC. Otherwise, this is 110% on Elko and the noose tightens if the defense doesn't look completely different next year

All these fanatics. Yes, lets simply fire all our coaches every year if they disappoint. Morons. Never build successful program that way.

Why don't you go ask Kirby? Or even Sark?

They should go deep. Make Jim Leonard an offer that's too good to turn down. Include access to a private jet and free rent to a mansion on acreage if you have to. He's paid $890K per year by the Broncos. Triple that amount and throw in a $200K signing bonus if need be.

Saban was smart. He hired some really good "consultants". Mainly offensive consultants, but he was always improving. It is idiotic for any Aggies thinking staying pat is the way to go. Elko isn't as well connected, but needs to make changes regardless of how it may look.
