Looks like Elko is wanting to make a change.

Our LBs did not do well under Santucci's direction. They got noticeably better when Durkin took over coaching that position.

Yeah, hopefully Santucci has improved considerably since his time here. Not 100 percent convinced by the few Georgia Tech games I watched but that may have been a talent issue.

True, but he has worked with Elko and has hopefully improved. I think he'd definitely be an upgrade at DC. LB wasn't exactly a strong point this season under Bateman either. Obviously Bateman set a low standard, but Santucci would be an upgrade nonetheless.

If we keep Elko giving him who he wants seems like the only path. We have tried cramming other assistants down failing coaches's throats to no avail…

The fact that he's being considered is disheartening. How about hiring someone who's a sure fire guy?

Compare GTech's D performance before he got there, versus after.
Not saying he's "the guy" for us, but he led a major turnaround there without question

Was not a Santucci fan when he was here before coaching LB's. But now that he's been a DC hopefully he's learned enough to be able to coach LB's up.

Something needs to change so I'll hold out hope, but short leash though.

Was it because of Santucci, or the head coach?

That head coach's history is pretty much all on offense.

Since I have no say in who Elko might hire, I will just accept that he knows what he is doing and wait for the end of next season before judging the new hire's performance. Having said that, I recall Santucci not being that great in his prior stint at Aggieland.

The other name that I have seen here on TA is Fuller. The FSU DC? Seems like he could be a good choice, the 2024 season notwithstanding. Given their season, I am guessing defense was not their only problem.

I would be more concerned with Santucci's recruiting over his playcalling. I like his simulated pressures that he utilizes. His GT defense has a lot of similarities to Elko's defense that he called here when he was DC.

You know the Ole Miss defense was:
#4 in scoring defense
#16 in total defense
#2 rushing defense

Sounds like one of those sure fire guys y'all are talking about.

Come to think of it. Auburn beat us in every major defensive statistic....who's their guy?

You guys are missing the forest for the trees. This shows that changes will be made to the D staff, DC, position coaches, whatever. This is only a positive development overall.

This is the only practical way. Let the HC be the CEO of players and coaching staff.

Elko hire or booster hire?
Why did we not get him a year ago?

The other thing y'all are missing is that a lot of it has to do with players making the coach look better. Now that we have some better LB's I would have no problem having Santucci back. Ole Miss had a bunch of great defensive guys...those coaches are going to look good too. Don't know if he would come back here and coach secondary either. He is a well rounded def. guy.

Whoever is coaching should spend some time each practice on some tackling drills. The number of missed tackles in '24 was high.

Or that "surefire" garbage DC we supposedly stole from
LSU for eleventy billion that in reality was worse than what we fired to get him

Doesn't add up as Santucci was offered job when Elko first joined, and he turned it down (didn't want to come back here).

Now, what I don't remember is which job was he offered...maybe it wasn't DC originally. Aware Santucci was exactly happy here the first go around, but maybe due to Jimbo (wasn't a fav of mine personally).

Tea leaves. Leaking a story about looking for a new DC puts pressure on Bateman to find a job. Thus no need to fire anyone and you keep your hands clean.

There is not a coach in the world capable of making our team captain MLB grow taller or run faster. I don't know why so many people didn't notice how bad we were at defending the middle of the field. Re watch USCs offensive hilights and focus on York.

Potentially...esp on Bateman (which was a buddy hire and UF was ecstatic to see him and Spencer go).

The confusion is J Peterson (Safeties) and Coach Ish both know how to coach and also recruit. Guess we'll see, but not sure how Elko gives up on Ish (way too many yrs of experience) and he paid a lot to pry away Peterson (and gave him co DC title too).

True, but a lot of that has to do with players abilities.
And aside from DLine, we weren't that talented.

Mules and quarter horses are damn good work animals, but they'll have a hard time "showing" in the Kentucky Derby

Focusing on Yorks stature is in no way why we lost. York has put us in so many better positions defensively soley on his knowledge of the game, he is a baller!

I've been calling out York's shortcomings all year and stated he's not a starting SEC caliber LB (absolutely a great kid, understands calls, but still guesses on gap leverage and/or easily blocked or lost in space on a TE). Coop covered up his flaws last year. York will be a coach one day is the path he's on, but just not a SEC LB regardless of 'false' stats and posters who don't understand the position.

Scooby and Stanford are better combo (albeit not perfect), but a few young bucks should step up next year as on paper should have a few that can play.

You must have not watched any games this year.
