BCS included extremely biased polls. Committee discussing it is far superior

If we had the same 4 team playoffs, who would it be. Imagine if Ga and PSU wins.

So PSU would get a spot. Ga in with 2 loss? SMU in? Oregon who didn't win their confrerence?

I mean who would the 4 team in? There would be more uncertainty than doing 12. 12-16 would be the perfect number.

If the number of teams goes up to say 30 teams, we'll finally be able to get into the playoffs.

We would be ranked 31 right behind a 6-6 Notre Dame.
For sure we'd do just enough to make sure we don't get in.

Go to 16. Remove byes for top 4 conference champions. Remove top 5 ranked conference champions being auto bids. Top 16 teams are the bids. I'm sure that can be refined with more rules so strength of schedule and overall record plays in too

I used to be on the same page as you but have come around on awarding the conference champs bids, still out on whether or not they should get the byes though.

16 teams. Bowl games go away. They mean nothing.

The committee also uses the polls.

We know exactly how much the polls are weighted with BCS. With committee is 100% political.

Committee can be pure trash.

16 is not enough games to get rid of bowls. Should be 24 plus an NIT playoff for the rest.

I think you will see bowl game attendance and revenue dwindle with the playoffs. Who really cares how their team does in Scentsy Bowl?

If the Ags play in a bowl outside Texas, you going?

No. Too many.

I thought of a playoff for 17-32 but nobody would want to play it. Too much risk for playmakers wanting to go into the draft

Show me a shred of evidence that people are opting out at a higher rate in the playoffs. There is none.

I've been a 16 team proponent for decades but now I'm thinking 24 would be far better and do away with CCGs. Make the selections the Sunday after T-Giving heavily influenced on an agreed set of computers and the regular season conference champs at that point. If there's a tie, come up with a plan to deal with that.

Anyway, with 24 teams you get ALL the deserving teams. Every single one of them. The first and second rounds are played at home sites, reseeded after every round like hockey, so the regular season record/finish DOES mean something. In other words, if 24 keeps winning, they'll always keep playing the highest remaining seed. IF you get in as a 20-24, your life is going to suck, but at least you got in.

People will ***** about where they're seeded, of course, but if it wasn't that, they'd ***** about what month they played in or that the other team isn't using Wilson or Big Game footballs or Coleman water coolers.

Ok, so the new and improved college football championship format that was so greatly needed in order to FINALLY "determine the champion on the field" results in the following:

- 3 loss teams are deemed worthy of a NC
- teams can lose to the likes of Northern Illinois, Texas Tech, Cincinnati, Michigan, BYU, Arkansas (unranked teams) and be deemed worthy of a NC
- teams can have more than 1 conference loss, even lose to the same team twice and be deemed worthy of a NC

Seems to me the new system is nothing more than a second chance for teams, who in the past, would have suffered the consequences of their results on the field, and been eliminated from a national championship. Of course, this brings HOPE to the many, which is exactly what ESPN is selling!

I never knew losing could bring this much fun! Never too old to learn something new.

Playoff still dumb. SMU gets in, and higher than the team that just beat them? t.u. loses twice to Georgia and could possibly get a third try?

BCS would be better. Oregon v Georgia for the championship. Or if a playoff is the answer, Oregon, Georgia, PSU, and ND are the top 4.

3 loss teams are not deserving.

Yes, all games except the championship, should be on college campuses. The college communities should benefit, not sooner out is state tourism destination

It would be

Oregon
Georgia
Texas
Penn State

Copied right from the top 4 rankings

also let's see what the 1st round matchups are before declaring the playoffs as awesome

there could a few clunker matchups

Define "clunker".

We've had games with big name teams that were blow outs in the 4 team playoff.

Stop being hung up on the team names as being what's needed to be a "good game"

And even if a team wins by 3 TDs, the "win and advance" aspect is awesome.

More clunkers in 2nd round

What?

Another thread with the OP not wanting to have more CFB with topped-ranked teams matched up?

It sucks that we can't have less CFB.

While the game was not competitive, I loved having meaningful college football to watch in late December.

Should NFL drop its wild card round? Plenty of blowouts there

Very true. Don't think anyone thought Indiana was a top 12 team. But don't know if there's a solution

An 11-1 big 10 (or sec) team will never be left out.

12 teams is not the right number . I agree with that part. 16 is the right number imo. Byes are an unfair advantage.

I always thought 4 was fine. That way every major conference undefeated team had a shot. Hard for a one loss #5 team to argue they had deserved a shot - only that perhaps they were more deserving than whoever got #4. Lots of arguments about who was #4 vs #5, but hell there's arguments in basketball about who is #68 vs #69.

The big benefit to 12 teams? I will sit down today and watch 3 games start to finish, and I'll also do next week. I never did that with bowl games, not even on January 1. And advertisers will pay top $ for my eyeballs.

You'll watch the whole games even if they are over by the first half like last night?

Some years 4 teams was two many, this year actually needs a bigger playoff since no one really stands out as being a whole lot better than anyone else. The BCS got it right most of the time with just 2 teams.

Bring back the BCS computers that take into account factors like strength of schedule.

And take the bias of the committee and the tv network lusting after ratings out of the equation.

At least 4 teams in the playoff should not be. Which means 8 was probably plenty.

The basketball tournament has 68 teams. But no team lower than an 8 seed has ever won the championship. So 32 is actually plenty.
AGDAD14
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Expanded CFP is nothing more than a consolation bracket.

Potentially a college football team with 3 losses or a team who lost to the same team twice will be a national champion. If that's not a consolation game, I don't know what is!

Enjoy watching the games.
