Bring back the BCS computers that take into account factors like strength of schedule.

And take the bias of the committee and the tv network lusting after ratings out of the equation.

BCS ratings would have resulted in Indiana #8.

Which is where CFP has them.

This is football version of March Madness, selling a Cinderella story makes people happy.

This would have been GA vs Oregon but there is more money in pretenders.

OSU
OR
GA

Indiana is the joke of the playoff so far.

No way 12 teams deserve a shot to be national championship.

Garbage Big 12 teams with 2 losses
Non conference champions without a ranked win
Whiny SEC teams with 3 losses... grow up you lost 3 games

Preach! Too many teams.

Best thing about college football used to be the whole season was playoffs. The more like NFL the worse it gets

12 teams is not the problem. It is the selection process. SMU and Indiana did not belong in the CFP.

12 teams is fine with nowadays NIL/Transfer format.

The problem is that the wrong 12 teams are in. SMU, Boise State, Indiana should have not been in over Bama, Ole Miss, South Carolina. It's not an SEC/everybody else thing, that's just who the better teams are with eye test and SOS

Just make it an SEC v B1G + ND event and be done with it.

Given we are at home watching playoff teams, I think we should sit this argument out.

Speak for yourself.

While the game was not competitive, I loved having meaningful college football to watch in late December.

Should NFL drop its wild card round? Plenty of blowouts there

You enjoy this SMU game that was over in the 2nd quarter?

That smu v Penn state game was not enjoyable at all

It still beats not having meaningful games on today.

Wouid you prefer the Gasparilla bowl instead?

There should not be;
  • a college football playoff
  • conferences with more than ten teams
  • overtimes when there is a tie
  • more than ten games in the regular season
  • more than one bowl game post season
  • a post season game with the number one ranked and number two ranked teams
  • a definitive national champion

Man what a disaster for the CFP. You know they were at least hoping for one team to create an upset and all they've gotten are blowouts

Give me 4 teams...no.'s 1 thru 3, then no. 4 and 5 can play to determine who gets the 4th spot.

12 teams = 3 or 4 teams that are not deserving.

So far these first games have all been a disappointment. However, are these any worse than the bowl games that we had last year?

It may not happen this year, but a Cinderella team will advance one day

Home games are a bad idea for the playoffs.

Every home team so far has built at least a 20 point lead.

Need neutral site games for all playoff games.

Get rid of the committee. Set the rules & criteria before the season.

- teams with more than two losses don't qualify for a playoff spot

- teams with two losses must be a conference champion to qualify for a playoff spot

- teams with one loss must be a conference champion or have played in their conference championship game to qualify for a playoff spot

- teams that are undefeated qualify for a playoff spot

Each year there could be a different number of teams that qualify. Let a computer based system set the seeding. Some years byes might be necessary for the highest seeds. If no teams qualify, take the four highest seeds/ranked teams per the computer system.

This year that would have been…

Oregon
Boise State
UGA
Arizona State
(ND would have to go undefeated or join a conference)
Maybe there were other conference champions with two or fewer losses that I don't keep up with.

The goal is perfection, be a conference champion, and don't lose 25% of your games on the road to being a national champion!

so Oregon will play Ohio State next week

while Penn State plays Boise...and t.u. plays Arizona State in the quarterfinals

epic, epic fail by the committee

At a bare minimum, SOS needs to be factored in.

Going further, conference champions need to be within the Top Twelve to automatically qualify.

And hottest of the hot takes: the playoffs have no business being twelve seeds. Eight is enough to fill our lives with love.

Terrible idea. This is why the season matters. You get home field advantage for the playoffs. Neutral site is terrible. If anything it argues for more home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The higher rated you are the more home games you get. Everyone whined and complained about how the playoffs would ruin the season. We're now seeing you want home field so a premium is now placed on regular season results, although the committee screwed that up as well which leads to another point.

What we are also seeing is that a better record does not make you a better team. Sometimes the good teams have an additional loss because they played the harder schedule. So the playoff committee ignored SOS and played politics and we got worse outcomes as a result. We should all want more tough games not less and the committee signaled that quantity of wins was all that mattered. They should have taken cues from the basketball committee and stressed harder schedules would get rewarded.
