How long do you want to ignore this user?

So he's not getting the NIL opportunities he was told would come

Right before massive game against Fresno state

NIL is not "pay for play" but it's "you better pay what you said if you want me to play"

There are only so many programs that can come up with substantial NIL money,
UNLV is not one of them but they were willing to pretend that they were. With the portal the guy would be better off burning a year of eligibility and proving he is good enough to play some where better
He's at UNLV for a reason and that's because he wasn't good enough to get an offer somewhere better

Sounds like he should have used Jimbos agent to guarantee his money.

You hit the nail on the head.

His transfer ranking was at 308 and 32nd overall QB in the portal class coming from Holy Cross.

Looks like he didn't even get what was offered at UNLV.

Do you blame him for wanting to try to make money? As a fan it would piss me off to high heaven. But I get it. He's not going to NFL. Needs to maximize his chance to earn money now.

UNLv deserves to be dragged through the mud if they promised a certain $ that has not been met.

I have never seen him play a snap but I can't imagine other FBS teams are knocking on his door promising significant $. He was a pretty good FCS player but has a 44% completion pct on the year (and no games >50%).

A bunch of us "back in the day" guys yelling at clouds…

If all of this is true, the problem, at its core, is the shady nature of NIL… Not the kid…

Frankly, I'm glad it was a third tier player at a third tier school… Imagine if this were an Aggie (see Nolen, Walter)…

This can all end when schools "man up", accept reality, and start paying players directly…
With contracts… Ending NIL…

Contracts with terms, limits, etc…

No more portal… You sign, you play, school pays…

NIL is a con… For everyone…

They will be directly paying the players here very shortly.

NIL Is never going away. Nor should it

Transfer portal will be fixed in a couple of years hopefully. That's the real source of problem in college football right now

Walking a tight rope it's not UNlv fault. Local car dealer promises x amount a month has 2 bad months his employees are his responsibility not a 3rd tier qb.

Look at Florida program promised to pay millions to the player didn't follow thru you can bet other schools use it when recruiting against Florida.

LOL. Uh, that's EXACTLY what it is. How many "Name, Image, and Likeness" type deals are you seeing that justify the kind of money being thrown around? I can think of one player in major national and statewide commercials per season. Some of the rest of these guys may have tiny local deals with HVAC companies and the like but you're kidding yourself if you don't think these guys are taking bids for their services. It's absolutely pay for play.
Also I wonder what "representatives" were made to him. Dude needs to spend more time in English class.

One thing we have done a good job of is getting the players the millions they are owed. Sure we had the one snap chat from Nolen but it was removed quickly. Whoever is writing these contracts has done a good job. No players have disclosed the millions they got from collective either. Closest we got was another 5 star from the 2022 class who didn't sign with us released a few details. My guess would be now when they pay the player to visit the initial payment covers a total non disclosure for any offers.

That's what makes is so disappointing we are at this point in our program when we had a head start and advantage to begin with. But Jimbo just went and found the kids that would take the most money instead of addressing needs and vetting players. Laziness on Jimbos part

Nothing in my post suggests I don't think they are taking bids for services. NIL opportunities are part of recruiting. Everyone knows that.

It's absolutely not, because this kid played, but did not get paid. And if he had gotten paid, and didn't play, there is nothing school or funder could do about it.

Actual Pay for play would be preferable to what we have now

My guess is there is more to the story.

He was probably told there's a chance for more and thinks he deserves more. It's the perfect spot to negotiate right before the read shirt and hope someone ignores his44% completion percentage and gives him money for next year.

I assume an agent was involved and decided to try a new tactic

I was against NIL right at the beginning. You bring money into college sports, it will ruin it and make it no different from pros. I remember some posters here saying if a player made money for the school, they should get as piece of the revenues. The deal originally was they got a free education.

Anyway, this has led to this kind of mercenary behavior and the blackmailing has begun. Can't blame the players in this, I blame the greedy administrators for ruining CFB.

How does UNLV not have the largest NL budget. Any of those big games that come in to Las Vegas benefits all the casinos. Good thing that they would have a $50 million a year budget.

Unless some bigwig is a UNLV alum, there is no real reason for Caesars or MGM etc to invest in UNLV NIL. It gives them nothing.

Dude, every one of your rebuttal attempts is making my point for me. You're saying one thing and completely contradicting yourself out of the other side of your mouth.

"It's not pay for play" is a pretty definitive statement. You think these kids are taking bids for image and likeness deals? LMAO. Get serious.

"It's absolutely not, because this kid played, but did not get paid."
Holy hell dude. You're a much better poster than this. You're not this dumb or naive. The kid is refusing to play because he's not getting paid. He's literally quitting on his undefeated team and it ain't because Clark County Paint and Body didn't make enough commercials with him.
BMX Bandit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
due, its like you can't read or just don't want to have an actual discussion.

if actual pay for play existed, then someone paying him could make him play. he would not be allowed to just quit, or he'd have to pay money back.

conversely, if he had a deal to go to UNLV for money, and they aren't paying, he could sue and get paid.

again, an actual pay for play (which is coming) is much better than what we have now.

yes, they are "taking bids" for NIL deals. When you show up on the UNLV campus as a recuit (or any school) you meet with people that tell you what deals others have gotten and (wink wink) maybe you can too! those "opportunities" play a huge role in where the player ends up.

and again you create a strawman:

no one has claimed it is. he's leaving becuase he's not getting the "NIL opportunities" he was told would come. said that first thing. that means hes not getting the money he was told he would.

Pay for play indicates a contract with performance stipulations. There is no contract. That is what BMX is saying.

Those of you bagging on the kid because he is tier 3 or whatever - that is exactly why he should be demanding the money. He is not likely to get a big pay day from football in the future.

He found someone to pay him something (I assume its a relatively significant amount - maybe $100k). They had an agreement and UNLV didn't live up to it. So why should he play?

Love of the game is one thing. Leaving college with some cash to start your post football life is another.

(This is all assuming that the facts of the situation are as simple as we are assuming)

Absolutely mindboggling. Also, no strawman involved. Lots of navet (being kind) on your part but that's about it.

You have contradicted yourself multiple times on this thread. You're either a moron (you're not because I'm familiar with your posting history) or you have no idea what you're arguing.
I'm not sure how to state it more plainly. You're attempting some vague nuance in your argument regarding this situation and it's ridiculous.
But play your little game.
BMX Bandit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i've contradicted nothing.

this player is mad he is not getting paid what he was said would be available. he's not mad he's not making actual commercials. there is no "nuance" about it. if he had an actual pay or play situation, he could sue whoever is not paying him.

you are either confused at what is being discussed, or are just doubling down realizing you were wrong from the start.

College football is not serious from a governance view, they want 300 different rules for 300 different teams, it's just not going g to be sustainable. The players should just strike and demand a real governance body that has real rules.
