One would definitely think so... Saban doesn't seem to be the one to suddenly ditch Alabama. He's practically a saint to them and wouldn't leave a job without doing all the necessary things first.

Who said they are scared of who they are going to hire? I think most of the collegial world is celebrating because they know there is no one out there that can match what Saban has done there

I don't know if there might be some kind of requirement to advertise the open position and conduct interviews, since it's a public institution and a state job. Could be.

Bama's best move would have been to immediately announce a successor.
