I think we could do worse but we should try for better. He's a big fan of ERob.

His offense has averaged fewer than 19 points this year.

Great idea!

Let's hire that to replace Jimbo!

Nebraska is a Tough place to recruit skill guys to tho. Rhule wouldn't be a terrible hire.

The first 2 yrs comment may be historically true but you have to look at the reasons as well. Those reasons may not exist here.

To be fair they have lost 9 starters on offense to injury. Yesterday's game they started 3 Redshirt Fish and 1 true Fish.

I'm a fan of Rhule but his OC(Satterfield) sucks and that's cutting him some slack for having such a young group.

I can confirm that I've heard mentions of this as well from a reliable source.

The main advantage he offers is that you don't have to deal with him having a post season lag effect in getting here, which I would guess that the administrators of the process are eyeing heavily since they want to keep this strong talent pool in tact.

I don't think hiring him is worth just that reason; however, I have a lot of confidence in Ross after the radio interview yesterday that they are definitely taking the right process and not going in the a few predestined candidates. Point is, if Rhule ends up being the guy after the vetting they've done, I have much more confidence than any recent hires that it WILL be the guy that gets us to perform consistently at the highest level.

They aren't just looking at resumes anymore. They're actually interviewing, which sounds like it's going to make big difference.

Oh but 9000 people on here are blaming Jimbo/Adazzio for injuries.

So which is it?

You simply can't fire a coach for not scoring enough points, then hire another coach who is not scoring enough points.

To be fair.

I'd love this hire! I really liked his demeanor, a nice balance of "one of the guys" and "the boss" He seems like a players coach, and a really good dude. Not firsthand, mind you, just my perception from afar.

Sorry don't listen to that. Just telling everyone what Bjork asked me to put in the memo line of my check.

One decent year in P5. Two noticeable years at temple. Zero okay years in NFL.

Definitely hire him off a failed year at Nebraska cleaning up for Frost. In fact: definitely hire all of Nebraska's failed coaches. Put Solich and Pelini in analyst roles and Riley and Frost as assistants. #ShouldTurnOutFine

I blame Addazio for several Qb injuries in the last 2 yrs , not because of injuries to his linemen but rather because he wasn't able to teach his lineman what to do and when to do it. Since Jimbo was the Hfc that hired him he gets the blame too and then he followed up by not fixing it from last season . Addazio's inability to coach got Jimbo's job imo.

One of a number of reasons.
Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and myself founded empires; but upon what foundation did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force! But Jesus Christ founded His upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him. - Napoleon Bonaparte

Yeah but to me that one was the key reason. Had they fixed that in the offseason this team wins several more games minimum imo. It was a glaring issue that everyone could see last year and it was seemingly ignored. It's even more aggravating because the talent is much, much better than the product in that particular position group. It's teaching/coaching methodology …. Not the kids.

Yeah...with a functional o-line we are a completely different team. Not only are we probably on QB1 but rushing offense would be much better

If it's Ruhle, then almost guaranteed that he'll retain Elijah Robinson. And that's a good thing.

So who you blaming for Ruhle's team injuries that have kept his offense from scoring 19 points per game?

Rhule has zero past experience at being an elite recruiter or closer, abject failure at NFL level of being a CEO, horrible press posture and/or ability to command the room, knack for getting outcoached in close games, and most indicting his current team sucks.

Did anyone watch Nebraska/Wisconsin last night? Incredibly boring offense. He started playing for a tie with a minute and half left and the ball on the Wisc half. He got the tie and then fubared the OT

No thanks, do not want

Elijah Robinson worked for him in Temple and Baylor. Likelihood goes up to keep Robinson.

Well rounded coaches and played all levels both sides of ball. Though losing in nfl it still gives him nfl connections, experiences. What he did at Baylor under the circumstances was simply amazing. He still has a desire to go bigger and I like this one.

Not blaming anyone because I might have watched a grand total of 1 half of all of Nebraska's games all season. It's a little different in yr 6 than yr 1 too tho. Did you watch a lot of Nebraska football this year and if so what's your observation? Addazio's crew did not know their assignments

I've watched every game from start to finish, grueling as some of it has been.(Three 3 point losses and one 7 point loss in OT.) But, it's the first year so some pain was expected. Overall, there has been significant progress.

I get it's easy to make fun of Nebraska but there's no shortage of resources in the athletic department or alumni support. They opened a $165M football facility this year and just announced a $450M renovation to Memorial Stadium. Spending that kind of $ obviously doesn't guarantee success, but like A&M, everything is there. It will be interesting to see where the program is after year 3 under Rhule.

So what are your thoughts? More than a little shy on the talent front is what I got out of what little I saw. I did see your injury comments.
Texker
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I was just pointing out the injuries because I thought it was relevant to the 19pt a game comment.

The defense is MUCH improved. Tony White has done a great job as DC. He's a Broyles Award Nominee and it wouldn't surprise me if he gets a HC offer. The kids have bought into the 3-3-5 and are executing it well. I'd have to look up the exact #s but I believe last year the D was ranked 55th or so in Total Defense. This year so far I believe they are 15th, including 5th in Rushing Defense. Suffice to say defense is not the problem.

Special teams have been much better. Punt and KO return coverage has been good. Unfortunately, the punter has had the yips for the last few games and had a terrible game last night vs Wisc. The kicker is a true freshman. He's 100% on XPMs but 61.5% on FGs, primarily because he's 1-5 from 40-49, including a key miss from that range last night.

And then there's the offense. Decimated by injuries. And young. REALLY young. Combine that with a sub-par OC in Satterfield (for South Carolina OC) who has a knack for getting squirrely at the wrong time and doesn't seem to be the greatest strategist plus a few failures on Rhule's part to manage him and the game at times and you have an offense that struggles. A lot. Even so, they are leading the B1G in rushing.

And finally, turnovers. Nebraska had 27 turnovers going into the game last night, 13 of which occurred in the 4th quarter. Just brutal and a key point in the three 3 point losses.

Just a quick fan review since you asked.

Yes. Thanks. That's a perfect summary. Scale of 1-10 with ten being the best. How would you rank Rhule's performance this year?

I'd give him a 7.5 to this point. That might seem high given the record but he's having to flip a culture. And from my sofa in DFW, while still a work in progress, much groundwork has been established. As an amateur coach that has built countless teams, I appreciate that more than most. If he manages to beat Iowa Friday and make the program bowl eligible for the first time in 7 years, the rating will obviously be higher.
