And yet another personal attack without addressing any points. Don't post at all if you're not adding to the topic at hand. Not a difficult concept. You don't have to let me live rent free in your head

Bro, no one with 5,000+ posts in the span of less than 2 years is living rent free in my head. Trust me when I say this.

Being that you are clearly a recent grad (if you have even graduated at all), perhaps you picked the wrong university. Might want to reevaluate your life choices, and stop trying to get everyone else to change to compensate for you.

Question for those of you with AG Tags complaining about Yell Leaders (if you don't have a tag, your complaints are mute)…did you not realize the Yell Leaders were a large part of the Spirit of Aggieland before you applied, were accepted and graduated from our great university, or do you now fell like you need to fall in line with what society tells you to think? Traditions at A&M have always been different from that of any other university in the country. That's what makes Aggieland great. If social media said the FTAB needs to be more like every other college marching band, would you fall in line with the social media bullies and agree with them as well? How about your Aggie ring…Do you cringe when someone asks you why you wear it everyday? Because even grads from other unis where a class ring is part of their history don't where their rings like Aggies do. How about you think long and hard what it means to be an Aggie, look at our history, and embrace what it is that makes A&M great!
The A&M I chose was anti-frat. The yellboys became a frat.

The entire problem is that the yell leaders are not funny, AT ALL! And I can't stress the "AT ALL" part enough. I mean, if you're not funny, get someone that is to write for you. It's that easy.

Everyone acts like making a few minor tweaks means the tradition is gone. No. It means you adapted the tradition, just a little, to better appeal to the people living in the current century.

Brand is important in college football. All successful companies have evolved their brands at different times in their history without changing who they are or what their brand stands for. If you try to change it too much (New Coke), that's when you lose.

Barstool is making a concerted effort to rip on us. Barstool is pretty popular on Social media and with young people. All you have to do is check their hits and followers. Whether an individual Aggie cares or not doesn't matter.

Cringe is too soft of a word. it's literally worse than the worst comedian you see on stage at a given open mic night. Enough to make Michael Scott uncomfortable.

Yeah . . .You can't go live and call a visiting fan base illiterate hillbillies and think it is going to play well. You really can't do it when you look like Gomer Pyle and are dancing around in overalls.

This is not a new thing either. People have been shaking their head about the cringe-inducing nature of yell leaders for 30+ years. It doesn't "take spine" to watch them. It just take a really bad sense of humor.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. I'm gonna get some hate for this but screw it. Class of 2012 here.

I went to 1 yell practice with my fish camp and never went again. I invited 1 corp guy to a party freshmen year between fish camp and class starting. He brought 5-6 other corp guys with him uninvited. Didn't bring any beer and drank all of ours. Never invited another corp guy again.

I have a cousin in the marines who brought 3 of his marine friends to the Auburn 2013 game. They all laughed at the corp - "fake army" and other expletives I won't mention here. They said the band was cool and that's it.

The hissing, yell leaders, yell practice are embarrassing to me. Too each their own. There are a lot of traditions I love but there are some I don't care for. Nothing will ever change so I don't lose sleep over it.

the word corps has an "s" in it.

I think your experience with corps members sounds pretty typical. I'm sure you probably didn't tell the cadet not to bring his buddies. Cadets are trained to do everything with their buddies, so him inviting a few other corps members doesn't seem out of the ordinary, unless you told him that his buddies weren't invited.

As far as them drinking your beer, how are 18 year-olds supposed to acquire alcohol to bring to the party? I'm sure they just assumed it was accepted since they couldn't legally bring their own.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but some of it could have been mitigated up front, or expected given the circumstances.

"Fake army." That struck a nerve. Nobody claims that the Corps is an army. It is the Corps and it is not fake. Many thousands of us former Corps members served as officers in the military. Others enlisted and served honorably. Texas Aggies had Big presence in WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan and other wars. And over 1000 Aggies, including 9 of my classmates, did not come home. The MSC in their memory. And by the way, over 200 Aggies became generals or admirals. The Corps is real; like the Corps or not, it should be respected.

sometimes it takes an outsider's perspective to remind us how embarrassing some of our traditions are. Like the dumb yell leader leg lift thing, because some yell leader from 1923 farted during a speech and now every yell leader does the fart motion. Like we dont have to make everything a thing we do until the end of time because your grandpa's grandpa's grandpa did it once.

Hissing is probably the most asinine one, as if it's cLaSsIeR tHaN bOoInG. lol. we really think our **** dont stink.

Not all cadets commission from VMI or The Citadel either. Are they also fake? It's a pretty big recognition to be designated 1 of the 6 Senior Military Colleges when half of them are strictly military academies.

What criticism is there if it's not from a fundamentally constructive place? I'm sure there are better things to do than criticize the undergraduate traditions of schools I never attended.

1986-87 Aggie Band commander is now a 4 Star General in the Marine Corps, so not too bad for a fake army cadet

I don't see any need to criticize the Corps. Instead of being naysayers, just ignore them, let 'em do their own thing, and pursue their own interests. It's no skin off our noses.

We do a hissing chant primarily to keep our fanbase from going out of control. A quick yell gets 95% of people behind the team in a positive direction, instead of being pissed off and trying to start **** with others in the stands.

This was never a thread to bash on the corps. At it's core this thread is about media exposure, and making minor adjustments to set ourselves up for success so we don't trip over ourselves.

The vocal hesitancy from the old guard to "change" is funny when we all ask the same of Jimbo.

"It's an old, outdated scheme, he needs to update the offense and let go of his ego. Why does he continue to do what doesn't work."

The introduction of the DJ to Kyle has been around since what, 2014? Why did the change happen? Because recruits like it. So many hate the DJ. I don't like it. But if that gets the football players ready to play, that is change I'm open to, and the university has shown it will change if it means it gives us a better shot to win in the long run.

Most on this board agree that our football program has a culture problem. Most would say it's objectively true that we have an inferiority complex. Most would say our football program and how it's organized needs to change. If making small adjustments means we have a shot at leaving our years and years and years of mediocrity, I'm open to it if it's reasonable.

And to proactively address the point many are itching to make, setting the program up for success goes far beyond performance on the field. Ask Notre Dame. Ask Ohio State. Ask Texas. Media perception ****ing matters whether you like it or not.

No adjustments that have been suggested in this thread have been unreasonable.

And for all you who stop after reading the first sentence of the OP and this post and rather spend time thinking of a smart ass reply peppered with a personal attack to blue star **** your way to greatness, be my guest and try harder

I never said I didn't respect it. I shared what 4 actively serving Marines said at a football game. I think their point was why wear uniforms and present yourself as something you are not. If they were taking time off while in school to serve, that is a different story. What they go on to do AFTER their time in the Corps should be commended and respected.

I come from a family that is largely military. Both grandpas, numerous aunts and uncles, and countless cousins. So I respect the military.

Marines bash Navy, Navy bashes the Air Force, Air Force bashes Coast Guard, Coast Guard bashes Marines etc etc. West Point bashes Citadel, Annopolis bashes West Point.
I had the privilege to attend the Army -Aggie game in San Antonio a few years back. Good times had by both Ags and Army.

I blame this on going to the SEC. We wanted the spotlight, we got it.

Our old regional foes understood us. Our traditions were known, and to them, that was just Texas A&M.

Now we're a freak show to the greater CFB world. Mostly, they're just jealous they don't have our spirit, and so A&M must be taken down a few notches!! Screw 'em and their damn pom-poms and their faceless, generic cheerleaders, bands, pep rallies, etc.

We're Texas A&M. They're not!
