By The Numbers: 2022 Football Signing Class

Here’s a statistical look, by the numbers, at A&M’s 2022 signing class for the Texas Aggies...

.9998 - Player rating for Powell, Tennessee defensive line signee Walter Nolen‍ ... the Composite #2 ranked player in the nation. That’s the highest-rated recruit the Aggies have ever signed in the 247 / Rivals Rankings era (2002-present), surpassing Myles Garrett’s .9993 rating.

#1 - A&M’s national ranking in the Class of ’22. It’s the first time the Aggies have ever ranked in the Composite top 3 nationally in the Internet recruiting rankings (modern) era. If the Aggies close in February in the top spot, it will break an 11-year run of either Alabama or Georgia finishing No. 1.

2 - Players in the 2022 Signing Class that rate among the top 5 highest rated prospects A&M has ever signed in the recruiting rankings era. Nolen is the highest-rated prospect ever to ink with A&M (.9998) and Frisco Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart‍ ranks 4th all-time (.9960) ... just behind Reggie McNeal (.9970) and just ahead of Kyle Allen (.9956). Including Lakeland, Florida defensive lineman Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy‍ (#10), North Shore cornerback Denver Harris (#12) and Bridgeland quarterback Conner Weigman‍ (#16), the ’22 Class has produced 5 of the top 16 players A&M has signed in the recruiting rankings era.

3 - Players in the class ranked No. 1 in their country at their position. Walter Nolen is the top-ranked defensive tackle prospect in America and Bogart, Georgia’s Jake Johnson‍ is the highest-ranked tight end. Meanwhile, tight end Theodor Melin Öhrström‍ is the highest-ranked overall player in Sweden and re-classified to the Class of ’22 to join this class.

5 - A&M signees ranked in the top 20 nationally in 247 Composite ... with potentially even more to come before the February Signing Day. That’s 25% of the 20 highest-rated players in the entire nation. Nolen is ranked #2, Stewart is ranked #6, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy is ranked #16, Denver Harris is #17 and Conner Weigman is ranked #19. The Aggies are still in the mix for Cypress Park linebacker Harold Perkins‍ (#5) and Opa Locka, Florida defensive lineman Shemar Stewart‍ (#9).

5 - Total number of Composite 5 Star A&M signees in the previous 6 classes combined prior to this cycle. The Aggies have already signed 5 Composite 5 Stars in the ’22 class alone and they lead for more with 6 weeks remaining until the February signing period.

8 - Amount of times an A&M signing class has been ranked in the top 10 nationally. Interestingly, half of those 8 classes have come in the last 4 cycles ... the first 4 full classes under Jimbo Fisher (#4 in ’19; #6 in ’20; #8 in ’21; #1 in ’22). The other 4 top 10 classes came in 2003 (#10 - Rivals), 2005 (#8 - Rivals), 2013 (#9 - 247 Composite) and 2014 (#5 - 247 Composite).

8 - Full classes in a row for Jimbo Fisher that ended inside the top 10. This dates back to the Class of 2014 at Florida State but does not include the broken Class of 2018, which saw Fisher leave FSU for A&M. Here’s how Jimbo’s 12 signing classes as a head coach have ranked nationally: #8 in ‘10; #2 in ‘11; #4 in ‘12; #11 in ‘13; #4 in ‘14; #3 in ‘15; #3 in ‘16; #6 in ‘17; #17 in ‘18 (at A&M … FSU slid to #11 after his departure); #4 in ‘19; #6 in ‘20; #8 in ‘21; #1 in ‘22).

12 - Players in the TexAgs Top 25 in the State of Texas that signed with the Aggies. That includes 2 of the top 3 (Weigman #2; Stewart #3) and 6 of the top 11 (Harris #7; Malick Sylla‍ #8; Kam Dewberry‍ #9; Bryce Anderson‍ #11). Perkins (#1), Devon Campbell‍ (#5), and Omari Abor‍ (#10) are the only top 25 in-state prospects that remain unsigned.

15 - Signees currently ranked in the 247 Composite top 100. That’s one more than Alabama. Georgia has 11. The rest of the SEC has 8 combined. Ohio State has 8. Texas has 3.

24 - Players who signed since the arrival of Jimbo Fisher (Class of ’18-present) that rank among the top 50 prospects the Aggies have ever signed in the modern era ... per 247 Composite. Ten of those are defensive linemen ... Nolen (#1), Brownlow-Dindy (#10), DeMarvin Leal (#11), Shemar Turner (#22), Enai White‍ (#27), Tunmise Adeleye (#28), Anthony Lucas‍ (#31), Donell Harris (#34), Malick Sylla (#40) and McKinnley Jackson (#44). Five of those 10 are in the Class of ’22 alone.

325.14 - Texas A&M's total number of points in the Composite team rankings. The total number to get to in order to attain statistically the greatest recruiting class in the Internet age is 327.91 (Alabama in ‘21).

A&M now literally has more talent than anyone in the nation except for Alabama and Georgia; and even then those three are getting pretty close to being in a dead heat

Very thorough analysis, Gabe. This really is a generational group of recruits.

4.25 is our average class ranking the last 4 years. The difference is the vast size of this class.

Gabe, this is a great contribution to allow us to fully enjoy how awesome this class is, and, more importantly to me, the direction of the program. Blue Star for you, sir, and I hope the family is healthy and well.

This class is not like the other classes Jimbo has signed at A&M. Jimbo signed 2 top 20 players in total since 2018. Kenyon & DeMarvin. We have 5 in 2022 already. Weigman, Harris, Dindy, Powell & Stewart. And we have a shot at 2 more. Perkins & S. Stewart. Not even close.

My favorite stat...

8 - Amount of times an A&M signing class has been ranked in the top 10 nationally. Half of those 8 classes have come in the last 4 cycles...first 4 full classes under Jimbo Fisher (#4 in '19; #6 in '20; #8 in '21; #1 in '22).

A&M is getting closer but most of you are forgetting that Alabama and Georgia has similar classes to ours every year. We finished 8th last year and Bama set the record. This year we might set the record and are barely above Bama.

Ohio States roster is more talented than ours. Honestly, we'll see by September 1st but Clemson and LSU probably have more pure talent than us but it is definitely close.
