Commit Analysis: Pair of Dickinson Gators boost Aggies' 2022 class
Both Donovan Green and PJ Williams gave their verbal pledges to Texas A&M on Thursday morning as the Aggies add a pair of highly-coveted offensive pieces. Billy Liucci analyzes the two commits as Fisher & Co. have built some early momentum in 2022.
On Malone and more...
I've spent the last day or so making phone calls about Texas A&M's continued pursuit of Oradell (NJ) DT Tywone Malone. As many of you know, Ty and his family spent last weekend in College Station. Here's what I can report after speaking to two separate sources who are both tied into the recruitment.- First thing that probably needs to come across is that if you're following this recruitment and think baseball is just something he does as a secondary hobby, you couldn't be more wrong. I was told, emphatically, that a better description of Malone would be "a baseball player that's good at football." He started playing baseball at 5 years old, and it's his first love. Therefore, Justin Seely and Rob Childress will have just as much of an influence on this decision as Elijah Robinson and Jimbo Fisher. - Tywone is looking at every possible angle he can from both the football and baseball prospective. I was told to expect this to go all the way until Signing Day where he'll make a traditional pick a hat announcement. - I asked a source what made A&M standout amongst his other finalists, and I was told the Aggie coaching staff has been honest and patient throughout the entire process. My source lauded Elijah Robinson's relationship with Ty as well as the persistence of Justin Seely's communication - "Ty is super close with Coach Elijah, and Coach Seely's consistency has made the kid feel like he's very much valued by the Aggie baseball program." - The Aggies have presented Ty and his inner circle with a clear plan of how they'd handle him playing both sports if he chooses A&M. During football season, he'd be a 100% football player. He would not participate in fall baseball unless he was completely clear of any scheduling conflicts with football, and he was given the ok by the football staff. That being said, those opportunities would be few and far between. Similarly, during the spring, he'd be all in with Aggie baseball. He'd do football practice/spring game/meetings etc whenever the baseball schedule would allow. - Overall, I wasn't given a clear indication of who the leader was, but A&M certainly has more than just staying power in this recruitment. I feel like Jimbo's experience of handling dual sport (specifically baseball) kids is something that's really appealing to Tywone. I also believe the aforementioned structured plan for his fall and spring responsibilities has been very much appreciated by everyone in his inner circle. I checked around with some folks regarding the timeline for Snow College (UT) OL Jordan Moko, and I believe he won't make his decision known until February. Still, like Looch has said, we like A&M's chances. Moving on, I've got some 2022 quick hitters...- Like Looch has said, I don't think we'll have to wait too much longer for some more kids to jump in the boat. The Aggies will almost assuredly pick up more than one pledge in the next 7 days. - A&M is set to speak with Austin Westlake QB Cade Klubnik today at 4 o'clock. - A ton of ground has been made up with North Shore CB Denver Harris. Last summer, the Aggies had a loooong way to go in that recruitment. Now, a contact in Houston thinks everyone is chasing the Aggies. - Keep an eye on Bremond DL Jaray Bledsoe. The 6-5, 260 pounder has some really impressive tape that features huge raw athletic upside. I've been told the Aggies have definitely been in touch. He picked up an offer from Oklahoma today. Big time ceiling on this kid. - Another name I've heard creating some buzz is Austin Westlake OL Connor Robertson. No A&M offer yet, but the Aggies, along with a host of other big time programs, are sniffing around. - I'm not totally sure what the timeline for CyPark LB Harold Perkins looks like, but if he picked a school soon, you'd have a hard time telling me it wouldn't be Texas A&M. - I'm not the Dallas guy, but a source today told me to watch for the Aggies with Frisco OL Cole Hutson. I've heard he's got a big fan in A&M OL Coach Josh Henson.
