Key notes from Recruiting Country

• The video that went viral from Bo Davis is a butt-chewing that happens on a lot of bus trips across America in a lot of sports. There are a lot of people who have gotten that same butt-chewing that Bo Davis gave. The expectation is silence after a loss. There is not supposed to be a lot of chatting. That's what I'm sure set him off. I have zero issue with him doing that, and it has been well addressed on this show and nationally that the issue lies with the person who decided to leak it. Completely separate from that, I have a problem with how Bo Davis is being championed as the best defensive line coach in the nation because he used a bunch of F-bombs. They have won a lot of head-to-heads for guys before he got there. They've had more talent than anywhere else on Texas' roster, and that position has underperformed more than any other group on the roster. To his credit, in his tirade, Davis said, "I got my behind kicked."
   
• The Walter Nolen‍ commitment was the biggest one that caught national headlines. We had started hearing it would happen in front of everybody before the Monday before the game. We thought the Chris Marshall‍ commitment would happen after the game, but he got his video, liked it and didn't want to wait on it. He dropped his on the bus headed to the game, so when he got to Kyle Field, he was a committed player.
   
• They were the first commitments in a while, but don't mistake no commitments for no momentum. Things are still percolating, and A&M is closing in on their top targets. There are five weeks left until signing day, and that is an eternity. They needed something to get the ball rolling, and the win with those two commitments was perfect for it.
   
• Bobby Taylor‍ has been enormous in recruiting and full-go in adding top-flight players to this class to come with him. Taylor has put so much time into the relationship side of it. What Nolen is going to bring is the clout of being the No. 2 player in the country. When he tweets at Shemar Stewart‍, who is also a five-star national radar guy, that resonates a little bit more. Nolen will be swinging a little heavier of a stick because of who he is.
   
• If you think Nolen is the best player in the country, and many people think he is, how many times has a school signed the best player in two different countries in the same recruiting class? That's what A&M can do with the reclassification of Theodor Melin Öhrström‍. That move was communicated to Donovan Green‍, so it did not catch him off guard. Adding ‍‍Öhrström will only make the tight end room better, but we don't know what kind of learning curve he will need to make. Getting him early allows him to get learning and understand the offense quicker. He's one of the best tight end prospects regardless of class anywhere in the world.
   
• I don't have the exact numbers, but there will be able 25 signees in December. Some of the early enrollees will be Conner Weigman‍, Taylor, Bryce Anderson‍, Noah Thomas‍, Jarred Kerr‍ and others. We'll get that information together. Signing day is in five weeks.
   
• I think Kamari Wilson‍ is going to Georgia.
   
• A&M's primary focus at running back has been on Le'Veon Moss, so we'll see if they can close him out. I've always been of the opinion that they don't have to take one unless it's a back they really, really covet. They've been on Moss for a long time.
   
• In 2023, you have Rueben Owens‍, who is a nationally-coveted player. 2023 could be a year that you take two running backs. With Owens, El Campo is an Aggie-heavy area. Right now, I'd say A&M and Georgia are the leaders right now. He came to A&M on Saturday and had a great time. He was also at the Alabama game. Many folks would say A&M has as good a shot, if not a better shot, as any to add him.
   
• You have 32 initial counters with transfers after the COVID year. I have no idea how they're going to sort all of this out. It has allowed people to bloat their rosters and be relevant for a year. Look at what Baylor and Michigan State have done with a lot of portal usage.
   
• In terms of the current class, Malick Sylla‍ could turn into a Tyree Johnson-type with his length and twitchiness. They're after Enai White‍, who is a good edge rusher. Shemar Stewart‍ would be considered a strong-side kind of guy. Anthony Lucas‍ would be a swing, DeMarvin Leal kind of guy. Walter Nolen can get after the passer a bit, and so can Jadon Scarlett. They're adding a lot of twitch and explosiveness to this recruiting class.
   
• Jadon Scarlett‍ has had a good year, and Jason Howell has been pleased with him when he has seen him play. He's a happy kid. Scarlett has massive hands, so you can see what he's so strong at the point of attack. He'll be different than the other guys they'll sign, so he adds something new.
   
• Kam Dewberry‍ spoke very highly of Josh Henson, Jimbo Fisher and the direction of the program. He also said that a lot of coaches tell him that he can compete for playing time right away, but at A&M, he's seeing it happen with Bryce Foster and Reuben Fatheree. His relationship with Kenyon Green is playing a key role as well. Dewberry is supposed to go to Texas this week and may go to Oklahoma again before signing day. He's going to make a decision during that early signing period. At the very least, I would say A&M is a co-leader for Dewberry.
