A few Saturday morning recruiting quick hitters
- Spoke to a source yesterday about Shiner's Dalton Brooks. As we've said, Texas A&M continues to be in a great spot heading into the summer. The timeline in terms of a decision is a little foggy, but I'd be surprised if it went into the fall. In fact, my gut tells me it'll likely be a mid summer commitment after the kid takes a few more trips. - One of my steady Florida contacts told me last night that I should be ready for the Aggies to have another noteworthy presence within the state this cycle - most notably with RB Cedric Baxter Jr., WR Hykeem Williams, and CB Sharif Denson. To go a bit further, my source said, "I don't know if A&M will get all three, but if you asked me where each was going individually, I'd probably give Jimbo the edge." - I had previously anticipated a summer time decision for El Campo RB Rueben Owens, but it now sounds like he will push that back and make some visits this fall to go to a few games first. There will be momentum swings from College Station to Austin to Athens to Baton Rouge to East Lansing during this one. No need to ride all the ebbs and flows. I expect Jimbo Fisher to keep the Aggies right in the fight throughout. - Lastly, it sounds like there's plans emerging for a BBQ/pool party on the last weekend in July. Denton Ryan LB Anthony Hill has already confirmed that he'd be in town then.

Recruiting notes - Thursday evening
- I don't know if y'all listened to Recruiting Country this week, but I mentioned a rising 2024 prospect in southeast Texas that's begun emerging on a lot of college radars, including Texas A&M's. Brock Jackson is a junior-to-be at Lumberton who came to camp in College Station last summer at about 6-2, 215 pounds and worked out at linebacker. Well, now he's nearly 6-4, 240 pounds and has run a true 4.7 in the 40 according to multiple sources. Darrell Dickey was in the area last week to see him. Jackson was supposed to visit this weekend, but the trip was rescheduled to next weekend so that the entire staff would be around Bright. Just something to keep an eye on in terms of new offers in-state. - Speaking of visitors, the summer official and unofficial schedule is slowly starting to work itself out. OL commit Colton Thomasson told me that he and Steve Addazio are working on a "big man weekend" where a couple of A&M's top targets up front, most notably Harris Sewell and TJ Shanahan, all come in town together. Based on my last check, I still feel like the Aggies are in a very strong position for both of those kids as we head into summer. - Continuing on that summer theme, I think you'll see a whole host of A&M's top skill prospects take trips to College Station in the later part of June. Two of those names mentioned to me today were El Campo RB Rueben Owens and Alabaster (AL) CB Tony Mitchell. - I was told by a south Houston source this week that A&M is taking a long look at Friendswood pass rusher Braylan Shelby. My contacts down there said the kid has really blown up and added a lot of mass and strength to his frame this off-season. No offer from the Aggies at this time, but I do think he'll come to camp this summer. I was told USC, Tennessee, and Texas are the 3 schools standing out currently.

A few Monday recruiting quick hitters
- It sounds like members of the A&M coaching staff will hit the road this week to begin work on their spring and summer evals. I'm sure we'll see pictures of various coaches scanning the state and country to check in on the Aggies' top targets as well as get updates on kids they've got on their board as they prepare to send out camp invites. - A lot of attention has been on quarterback with the Aggies back on the market. In state, I think the focus remains on A&M's measured pursuit of Dripping Springs signal caller Austin Novosad. A coach I spoke with last night called Austin "the best 2023 in Texas" and thought he was on the verge of making huge jumps in the national rankings. The Aggies remain in-touch but have yet to offer. - Another name at QB to keep an eye on is Jaden Rashada out of Pittsburg (CA). I've been told Darrell Dickey will be out on the West Coast to see him soon, and the kid is looking to leave California to play at the next level. - 2024 Silsbee ATH Drelon Miller was scheduled to be in town last Saturday, but he rescheduled due to Easter. He's a high priority target for the Aggies in that class, and A&M will be down in southeast Texas to see him later this week. I'm told there's no concrete date set up for a return visit, but it will absolutely be made. - 2024 Willis QB Derek Lagway will be getting a visit from Coach Dickey this week, as well. The talented rising junior is coming off an extremely busy run of visits which culminated last weekend in Tuscaloosa. I still like A&M's eventual chances here, but it does seem like the kid is making sure he checks out all of his options. I've heard Florida has been making a big push this spring. - Spoke to a source on Arlington Martin CB Javien Toviano over the weekend. I always defer to Jason on DFW kids, but my source expressed growing confidence in the Aggies. I was told he talked to the A&M staff at length over the weekend. - Lastly, I got another really positive report in terms of which way A&M is trending with 5 star El Campo RB Rueben Owens. Long way to go in this one with lots more recruiting to be done, but there's undoubtedly some Maroon and White momentum heading into the summer.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
