The timing of Johnny's recent hospital visit and release are raising eyebrows. Even if unrelated, Johnny has an image problem and being released like he was, is not helping.

Good luck Johnny.

In my opinion, Johnny's not an idiot--he's an addict. Addiction is a disease. He hasn't hit rock bottom yet. Hopefully, when he does, he will survive it and choose to join a 12 step program. He'll keep using until that happens.

It is possible to be both an addict and an idiot. Both can be overcome if you really want to.

I will always root for him and won't speculate on dumbass rumors. He's done more for our program than any in recent history (besides Von). I hope he succeeds.

So Montreal only released him at the direction of the league, there is definitely more to come from this.

bad day in the Manziel house. First, he's cut. Then the rib gets exposed cheating in a half marathon.

Who is a bigger idiot...the guy who lost a CFL contract for reasons unknown, or the guy who calls him an idiot before knowing why the contract was terminated?
Does it matter?

the bigger idiot was the guy who HAD a starting job in the NFL and lost if because of booze, drugs and not listening to his coaches, then sat out a few years doing nothing but spending his money on more booze, drugs, and *****s until he FINALLY got a chance to play pro ball again (even if it was the CFL) and the LOST that job for reasons that don't really matter, do they? If you want to play pro ball and you flush out of the CFL, how serious are you? What's he going to do next? Arena ball? Coach in the lingerie league?

He's never going to play for the NFL again. He's probably never going to play pro football again. For a guy with the talent he had to end up where he is now, he's an idiot. Yeah he is an addict, but those things are not mutually exclusive.

Is there confirmation that the reason for his release was substance abuse?

Nope, pure speculation from those who have turned their backs on him. His tweets seem to be lucid and coherent. We shouldn't pass judgment until the CFL says why he has been banned.

I'm actually amazed at how many still back Johnny. And even more amazing some actually think he still has an NFL shot.

He needs help.
He will never be relevant again in the game of football, on any level in any league.

This is a true example of being blinded by the uniform.
I'd love to see this boards reaction if Johnny had attended another school.

Great great college QB... but Johnny is done and has been for awhile.

So why was he released?

Is he not getting treatment right now?

Let's face it we have no clue why he was released and are just speculating.

You have 0.00% knowledge of why the CFL released him. You immediately jump to the assumption that it was booze or something. It may have been anything from speaking with other leagues about opportunities to being 2 minutes late to a mandatory event. You don't know. It'll come out eventually, but right now it's nothing more than speculation and assumption.

He screwed the pooch in Cleveland, nobody is denying that and he's even admitted it and has owned it, yet that's not good enough for some of you, and y'all continue to call him a loser. Dude has accomplished more in is life professionally than anybody on this board, yet he's the loser that sucks because you think you have some moral high ground to stand on.

There is no confirmation it is drugs, but it's not crazy that a lot of people think that's it. I don't think there is much reason to believe it's because he has been negotiating with another league. His numbers in the CFL don't seem like the kind you'd expect to see that would have others knocking down his door. 5 TDs, 7 ints, 2-6 record. I guess an AAF team could be interested to see if he would increase ticket sales, but it would be a desperate play.

I'm a fairly conservative man that believes everyone needs to take responsibility for their own actions, but these kinds of posts are a perfect example of how misinformed we are as a nation on mental health. Hell, I just met a man who had ANOTHER heart attack and was downing a bucket of KFC and talking about how he hopes he gets to his next birthday. Insane! But he's mentally off.

Johnny needs help. He needs tough love. He needs get his stuff straight. But to think his brain works just like yours or mine. He's been bipolar for decades. He's not just gonna wake up and be ok. Show some grace, even if you're point that he's likely done with football is correct. While he did plenty to get himself into a bad spot in the media, the spiral started when the whole world started hating him. We do t need to add to it.

He has held a job for all of three years in he entire life and has been fired from every job he has ever had. He is 26 years old and has been gainfully employed for three years and he is currently out of work with zero prospects in his chosen career. By the time I was 26 I had been employed for 5 years full time and 3 years part time and never once had been fired from any position. The guy needs help. Johnny has done plenty to hurt himself, but there is no denying that he has been completely ****ed in the a** hard in his pro football career with going to the Browns (sh**tiest team in the NFL) and then eventually ending up with the Alouettes (sh**tiest team in the CFL). Who's the sh**tiest team in the AAF? That's where I expect to see him next.

By the time you were 27, you still needed a job. By the time he turns 27, he'll still not need to work. See the difference? He'll be 40 and working/doing jobs he wants to do while you'll be hoping your boss approves your request for a half day next Tuesday. As far as a job for 3 years of his entire life? Playing at A&M was a job whether you want to believe it or not.

IMO, he may have a screw loose. I've held that opinion since that first offseason after his Heisman year. For whatever reason, he just can't seem to figure it out. I hope he gets the help he needs and straightens out his life, but then again I've been saying that for at least 5 years now.

Dude has pissed away a lot of his NFL rookie salary. I have no idea how much, but wrecking GT-Rs, jet-setting for weekends in Vegas with Louis Vuitton man-purses, coke habits, etc. are not cheap. You can blow $8.3MM in a hurry. Having one big paycheck and getting fired from every job you've had is hardly accomplishing more professionally than everyone on this board.

He probably has blown quite a bit of money, but he also had some endorsements that paid him. The GT-R was probably given to him by Nissan for winning the Heisman or some kind of special arrangement. I don't know his financial situation and it's all just speculation for everybody, but he'll probably never have to work a 9-5 job like the rest of us.

So, every guy who has made it to the NFL, MLB, or NBA who didn't have a HOF career is a failure in your eyes and didn't accomplish anything? He made it to the top of his profession. There is no other organization in football that is higher than the NFL. Getting there is a professional accomplishment. Being a first round pick is a professional accomplishment. Making the final 52 is a professional accomplishment. Doing so multiple years is a professional accomplishment. Did he last several seasons? No. Was much of that his own choices? Yes. That doesn't discount the fact that he made it and got paid what should be lifetime money. By your standard, Luke Joeckel didn't accomplish anything either.

He was fired from the Browns (with a year left on his contract, they paid him to go away because he was a distraction) because he couldn't come to work on time and wouldn't do his job during the week. That's not just a case of being replaced on the roster by someone better. (And actually, he didn't get $8.3MM, he only got $6.7MM because he was fired). He lost an estimated $5MM because he was fired from his Nike endorsement. His other endorsements were $250k from MusclePharm, $150k from Snickers, and $150k from McDonalds.

You seem to be of the opinion that making an NFL roster is bigger than any other profession's zenith. There are a lot of people on here that have made it to the top of their professions.

And I seriously doubt Nissan gave him a $130k GTR for winning the Heisman. Mike Trout was given a $50k Chevy Silverado for winning the MVP. Payton Manning was given a $60k Cadillac Escalade for winning the MVP.

Dude has accomplished more in is life professionally than anybody on this board, yet he's the loser that sucks because you think you have some moral high ground to stand on.
He doesn't need fans who defend him with foolishness like this.
By the time you were 27, you still needed a job. By the time he turns 27, he'll still not need to work. See the difference? He'll be 40 and working/doing jobs he wants to do while you'll be hoping your boss approves your request for a half day next Tuesday. He may not have sustained success at his profession, but he made it to the top.

As far as a job for 3 years of his entire life? Playing at A&M was a job whether you want to believe it or not.

So, still made more than the keyboard warriors calling him a loser and failure. Gotcha.

Quote:

You seem to be of the opinion that making an NFL roster is bigger than any other profession's zenith. There are a lot of people on here that have made it to the top of their professions.
No, making it to the NFL is making it to the top of your profession. There are people on here who seem to think that's a failure, and I doubt any of them are C-suite execs in the leading companies of their industries.

Quote:

And I seriously doubt Nissan gave him a $130k GTR for winning the Heisman. Mike Trout was given a $50k Chevy Silverado for winning the MVP. Payton Manning was given a $60k Cadillac Escalade for winning the MVP.
You missed the "special arrangement" comment. Then again, he may have bought it. I dunno. Nissan is the official sponsor of the Heisman and I would be surprised if there wasn't some kind of reward from them for the winner once he's no longer an amateur.

There's a big difference between not making it in the NFL because of injury or poor performance (like Joeckle) and not making it because you're a blithering idiot (Manziel).

This is very simple wait and see why he was cut, but there are several on here determined to bash him. Since we so not know the terms of his contract we cannot guess on why he was cut. As for being banned they were pretty clear from the beginning that he only had one chance and if he didn't follow there rules he would be done. The CFL is not like the NFL and everyone seems to be using the NFL standards for the CFL.

Be patient and see what comes of this.

Okay, and I say to Johnny "Prove me wrong." But based on his 7 years of history, I'm past the point of giving him the benefit of the doubt.

This language from the CFL commissioner is pretty strong though.
Quote:

"We advised Montreal that Johnny had violated one of the conditions we had set for him to be in our league. And Montreal announced his release today," CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie said in Vancouver. "We didn't release the terms of those conditions then and we're not going to do that now.

"We're trying to do what we believe is in the best interests of the entire league. The conditions we set, we thought were the right ones. Those conditions have been violated and we feel it's best, and Montreal feels its best, to let Johnny move on. And we think it's best for our league that he do the same. And we wish him well."
So not only is he cut, he's banned from the league. I'm not sure you do that to players just because they are speaking to the AAF or the XFL. If that's the case, go ahead and ban about 90% of CFL players.

I'll stick to my opinion until proven otherwise.

To be fair, getting "fired" in sports is a lot different than getting fired in the real world.
