How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sorry if already discussed. With 3 RBs in this class (4 if you count Vernon Jackson), how likely is it that all will redshirt, considering T. Williams, Kibodi, Bussey, and Etwi are all back next season? Williams got dinged up a bit last season, so I imagine Bussey and Kibodi will get plenty of snaps (they've both shown potential in limited opportunities).

Can we get through 2018 with these 4, or are any of the incoming guys good enough to deserve to be in the rotation right away? I don't follow recruiting much, so I don't know much about them. I do like their size though - all 6' 1" - 3", 200+.

Guarantee there will be a transfer or 2 of the crop of RBs we already have on campus. We got 5 RBs this cycle technically:

- Transfer from UCF - forget his name - will have to RS
- D. Prince.
- J. Corbin
- C. Strong
- V. Jackson

Someone is going to defense and I would not be surprised to see a transfer also. I hope they all stay but you just have to be realistic.

ELITE programs redshirt 80% of their recruits.

Recruiting is about convincing kids to come. Program building is about convincing kids to wait (eat and lift) and compete.

You have to be someone really, really special (Myles Garrett) to not be redshirted.

I wonder if Jimbo has a plan, or like maybe a vision... or if he's just gonna let the chips fall where they may.

Except for Alabama. 19 of their 28 freshman played this past season.

Rolling out a 551 set on offense: 5 running backs, one qb.

Here's our returnees:

K. Bussey 5-8 205
T. Williams 5-9 200
C. Jones 5-9 185
J. Kibodi 6-2 210

And new signees:

J. Corbin 6-0 191
C. Strong 6-1 220
D. Prince 6-1 196
V. Jackson 6-3 240

Trayveon is deadly if he gets a seam, but there are times in the SEC you need to get tough yards and RB is the position that transitions best from HS to college.

I agree that this could be a great year for Kibodi. He's a very dynamic runner.

If they were going to burn his shirt, why did Kibodi only get 11 carries all season? And only one attempt with both Trayveon and Ford dinged up in the bowl game? I hope he gets utilized better with the new staff.

I agree. Last staff was moronic and clueless. They had no plan. I believe that has changed. We will see them developed with a plan.

Didn't he fumble in the bowl?

But i agree, way too few carries after burning his shirt.

ESPN listed Strong and Jackson as athletes

I suspect Strong was listed as an athlete because he might end up as a full back.

That was rare for bama. I also bet not many, if any, were in the trenches. A lot were at skill positions on offense. They also had a rash of injuries at LB which forced them to play some freshmen. Additionally, bama always has some five star guys that are ready to play as freshmen.
There is also a difference between playing as a freshman and starting as a freshman.

14 of 21 played in 2016. Want to try again? Maybe Michigan State redshirted 80% when Saban was there in the 90's......

Bama brings in 5 stars to play special teams for 2 years. Crazy luxury.

This may have been the stupidest decision the last staff made all year, and that's saying something.

No they don't. Their 5 star players mostly play their first year and they play the position they were recruited as. If they don't play their first year they were typically overrated and transfer or ride the bench most of their career.

There's a myth that's perpetuated that Alabama is doing things differently as far as player management. They don't. They recruit the same, play a similar number of players and redshirt a similar number. The difference between Bama and A&M is not how early freshmen get into the game, it's the quality and development of those players. This isn't the 80s/90s.

Saban gets the most out of their talent. Sumlin didn't. We'll see if Fisher does better, I suspect he will.
