How excatly does this make anyone safer? Gameday is a bunch of people congregated in one area no matter how much "security" is added. This is an inconvenience, nothing more.

Clear bags have become standard operating procedure at stadiums, entertainment venues and even schools worldwide. They are a visible deterrent for bringing prohibited items into the stadium, while simplifying the bag check security process. It may be an inconvenience at first, but NFL stadium staff say that the clear bags make gate entries much faster.

Concessions were never part of the discussions, neither at the school nor conference level.

We are trying to get people in the stadium quickly and keep everyone as safe as possible.
Jason, I am a diabetic battling peripheral neuropathy (diabetic nerve pain) and I must keep my legs and feet as warm as possible, I wear long pants and cover with a blanket 24/7 (I am retired). Even during summertime, I have to keep covered up to try to keep the pain down as best as possible. I keep a blanket (to cover my legs) in my game day bag, as well as diet Dr. Pepper, insulin and sugar free snacks.

This will be my last season as a ticket holder after almost 20 years, going to a game and leaving at the half with severe pain does not sound appealing. Thanks, this policy change made my decision easy....

That's disappointing to hear. The policy at 12thMan.com/BeClear states that you can bring in jackets and blankets on your arm. Additionally, we will have designated entry points for fans with special medical needs. Feel free to call me if you would like to discuss further re: your accommodations.

I don't have a problem with clear bags, but I thought this was interesting:

TSA fails to detect explosives and weapons 95% of the time in undercover tests

Thanks for the response Jason, I will check back with you when we get closer to kickoff.

Someone CCing a handgun is still going to walk in just like they did before.

There are lines for people w/ and w/o bags. People choosing to bring in a bag shouldn't be complaining about lines.

This will definitely reduce my shopping for the kids before the game. I usually use game days to stock up on aggie gear for myself and the kids, then take the bags with me into the game, but this will now be impossible.

There should not be any problems. Both Barnes & Noble locations -- in the MSC and the 12th Man Shop in the northeast tower -- will be using disposable clear bags for any purchased items before the game. So no issues bringing purchased items into the game.

If everything I buy from the MSC bookstore can be taken into the stadium, then that solves my biggest issue

Are the MSC clear bags exempt from the size requirements? What about the 1 bag/person rule?

How much stuff are you people carrying into the stadium with you? I'm all for a size/volume limit, whatever the motives.

Let me guess, yall don't check luggage on flights because you can just fit it all in the overhead and beneath the seat, right?

It's not A&M's fault, as they are just following the lead of other teams/schools... but I've yet to see one single study that shows the clear bag policy makes anyone safer. It's a move to decrease liability if something *does* happen, not to actually prevent something from happening.

Concession stands running out of water and the lack of crowd flow control at certain entries/exits to Kyle are more of a safety issue than someone sneaking something into the stadium.

Jason -- again not pointing at you as I think we all knew this was coming to A&M (and everywhere else), but I'm curious... do the security teams at Kyle run any kind of actual gameday exercises/tests to determine success rates (eg. an undercover security employee attempting to bring contraband into he stadium and seeing if he is stopped)? Based on the TSA percentages, I find it highly questionable this new method will prove to be even a fraction more "secure".

Does this rule apply to staff? If so, what is Sumlin supposed to carry his $5,000,000 in?

This is ****ing stupid. If you want ***es in seats, this is a great way to put them on couches and in recliners. After all the crap with concessions last year, and now this, is evident that the AD is trying to make the gameday experience as ****ty as possible.
If having to use a clear bag so that you can't sneak in your snacks & booze (or at least having to use cargo shorts) is going to keep people on their couches instead of inside Kyle Field, then those are some poor sumb*tches. Still not sure how clear bags is making gameday sh*tty, but this is TexAgs....where we b*tch about everything.

If you don't ever use a bag (like most men) then this means zilch. If you've been bringing a bag, then you are already used to having to wait in lines. Once a few games pass and everyone is made aware of this policy, those lines will move faster.

I was flying through Logan a few years ago and while I was putting my shoes back on after exiting the body scanner when I heard the guy behind me say loudly "can I have this?". He was waving a box cutter in his hand which had been on his hip. He had already been cleared through the scanner. TSA confiscated it and sent him on his way.

The body scanners have a hard time detecting items on a person's side. I notice if I wear cargo pants through the scanner, I always get a secondary screening. When wearing jeans or trousers I never get a second glance. I assume this is because TSA knows the failings of the scanners.

95% of the TSA is security theater.

Jason,

Are there plans to sell a backpack version rather than a tote? A backpack is much more convenient to carry than a tote bag when you are on campus for a few hours prior to kickoff. I found several clear backpacks on Amazon, but the smallest ones are 15x12x6.

Clear bag policy is flipping bullsh that does nothing to make people safer.

If anything, it puts women at more risk as they are forced to showcase their belongings.

It's led to faster lines at every stadium in the world where it's used.

MSC bags will be subject to the 12x6 rule as well. 1 bag allowed per ticketed entrant.

Thanks for the feedback. Clear bags are a necessary inconvenience in these times. But we are optimistic that they will speed up stadium entry considerably.

We have a new event staff group coming to run Kyle Field this season. We have been very impressed with their professionalism and training programs for employees. They will also have full-time staff stationed in College Station throughout the year. The caliber of our event staff should increase significantly in 2016.

No backpacks are allowed. We are hopeful that the SEC will allow backpacks once its policy rolls out league-wide for 2017. But they would still need to be 12x6 or smaller ... I am not aware of any backpacks this size. But here is a cinchsack that would work:

Any rules on clothes such as layers of clothing and heavy coats with lots of pockets (I have one). Also blankets. I've resolved to never again be cold at Kyle Field. How much can be carried in or worn? I've in the past worn several layers and taken my large water-repellant coat that has lots of pockets with zippers. Also a poncho. Any limits? If so, what are the limits. Need policy answer--not an opinion.

As a season ticket holder this really pisses me off. We spend tons of money on new stadium cost of everything is already going up and now I have to buy a special bag to bring a few items with me to the game for some perceived level of better security? This doesn't do anything for security its just another chance for the university to make some coin on bags while making everyone "feel" better. Gives me more and more reasons to just watch the game from the comfort of my own home.
