Notice how it got dead silent as soon as he said that. It was like a collective "Oh sh*t..."

We may or may not play them in the future, but if we do Strong won't be around to coach it.

There are reasons to play this game:
1. Money
2. Some people want the rivalry back (emotional feelings)
3. Impact on recruiting (could be good or bad depending on outcome any given year but impossible to measure the impact).

But, putting those issues aside, this seems like a bad deal for A&M for two primary reasons:
1. Texas needs this game way more than we do because the Big XII is pathetic and this gives them a huge game
2. The goal is conference and national championships (this must always remain goal). A&M already has a difficult enough schedule. Playing this game does not help our goal.

I think he is blowing smoke. Coaches do not make the schedule. If there is something in the works, he would be told after it was a done deal... if he was told at all.

Let them say what they want. They know and we know THERES NO WAY IN HELL they ACTUALLY want to play us again.

We would mop the floor with those scrubs.

No never for a regular season game. Goodbye to the orange and white. We finally figured that out, don't go back to play someone that hasn't considered us a rival.

He was talking out of his ass. He has no say in it or would even have knowledge of talks until they happened. For all of his BS core values, people do not realize Strong is a notorious liar.

Florida plays Florida State
Georgia plays Georgia Tech
South Carolina plays Clemson
Florida plays Miami (I think this is getting started again)
Kentucky plays Louisville
BYU plays Utah
New Mexico plays New Mexico State

All of these teams play "rivals" from other conferences and it doesn't seem to hurt them. No reason this game shouldn't be played again.

The only time I want to play them would be in the playoffs.

So, is t.u. (and other BIG 10-2 schools) pathetic or are they a "difficult" game? We seem to want to schedule at least one marquee out of conference game, why not make it t.u. instead of some PAC 12 school? For a school that loves tradition, we sure seem happy to kill one of the oldest games in college football.

The game is coming. Just a matter of time. We would have likely beat their @$$es the last 4 years. It's going to be really stupid when we decide to play them again after they've had a chance to reboot.

what does "not needing to play them" even mean. That has nothing to do with it. The fact is the two biggest schools and most storied programs in the state of Texas should be playing one another every year regardless of the sport or conference. Politics, money, "need to", "want to", shouldn't and don't matter. It's the right thing to do and it needs to be done. Sports are entertainment and any time these two schools play it's entertaining.

it's ironic that so many on here believe the game shouldn't be played yet every other day there is a different topic about texas. If we don't need them and the game shouldn't be played then why all constant talk about them. if they don't matter then why the obsession? The fact is they do matter and will always matter because the schools are 90 miles apart, the two flagship universities in the state of Texas, and fans live and work by each other on a daily basis.

Let's just get the band back together again and recreate the southwest conference

We need to put it on hold for another 15 to 20 years so all of the idiotic "t.u." and crap like that is forgotten. We are not little brother any more we need to quit acting like one. We should play them in about 2030.

I believe that Sharp does not want to play t.u. in anything. When we were leaving the Big 12 our AD had tried for months to get t.u. to change their minds and continue our series. Dr. Loftin also got involved with direct contact & letting everybody know that we'd play them "Anytime, anywhere." But nothing worked.

At the end of that process Sharp got involved. He went to Austin, bought Powers and Dodds dinner and tried to convince them to continue the series. Clearly he failed, but something happened at that meal that royally pissed Sharp off. After that, the tenor of the whole discussion changed. We heard nothing more from A&M about a t.u. game until a couple of years later when Jason Cook told folks that we'd welcome meeting them in the playoffs or a bowl game, but we weren't going to be playing them during the season.

It has been a few years since that dinner, so it may be that Sharp has cooled off (especially since Powers and Dodds are both gone). But Sharp isn't the kind of guy to let something like that go. You don't get as far as he did in Texas politics by being a forget and forgive sort. At least, not unless you get something in return.

So, I think this is just message board fodder. But if its not - we are getting something big in exchange for resuming the series. Just how big will be based on how pissed Sharp still is and how desperate the sips are.

I'm curious...what does 'it's the right thing to do' mean? That's the line obama uses every time right before he bends us over.

t.u. is going to have to come to A&M in a humble manner and make a few concessions for the game to return on an annual basis.

things like...

- A&M will pick the year the series resumes (synch it with the Ags' current SEC home/away schedule)
- the first game back will be played at Kyle (even though the last one was)
- the game will never be played on the LHN
- the game may have to be played in September

every game at Kyle Field and during the State Fair, move the OU game if you want to play us.

I take issue with both of those points.

1) "If its not us, then who?" maybe be our fundraising slogan, but if not us, it will be someone else on their schedule. They have games scheduled with LSU, Southern Cal, Ohio State, Michigan.

(And they also have Arkansas, FWIW.)

They don't need us to have a big non-conference game or even play an SEC West team.

2) Our schedule may be pretty darn difficult already, but that doesn't seem to faze Alabama or most other programs we aspire to be, who almost all regularly schedule marquee non-conference games.

Alabama is playing Southern Cal this season. LSU is playing Wisconsin. Florida of course plays Florida State. Etc. Etc.

Step up to the plate and challenge yourself. That's what the best do.

Who do we need?

We don't need anyone except 4 teams to fill out the schedule.

Its besides the point.

I know others disagree and money is what most care about so at some point the game will be played for that reason alone. That said, I don't care about a game "needing to be played", if it is good for football or entertainment, etc. I care about winning conference and national championships and that is it. So unless you explain to me how this helps us win national championships I'm not interested. Simply put, we DON'T need this game.

But again, it isn't worth getting all worked up about because this is all just message board discussion, there is no doubt this game WILL be played again. Only question is when? 5 years? 7 years? 10 years? 20 years?

what I mean by it's the right thing to do (and no I didn't vote for Obama), is that I believe the two schools should be playing each other regardless of politics, conference affiliation, money, cry baby fans, win loss record, schedule, leap year, full moon, first of the year, thanksgiving,or whatever. Trying to convince yourself they don't matter anymore or we aren't little brother is ridiculous. If you thought we were their little brother or let it bother you that they thought that or the media used it then that's your problem. These two schools, once again in my opinion, should be playing a game or series in every sport, year after year. It just makes sense.
