I know someone that is close with his wife.

I assure you, college station is not a job he'd turn down.

Lol, not about to get in a pissing contest on who knows someone close to the hermans. All I can say is that he's had his sights on one particular school for a long time, and it's not A&M.

However, if he did come to A&M, get ready to win championships.

Trusted you to keep that on the DL, bro. Not cool.

Herman would take the a&m job. College station is a nice town to raise a family. Also great recruiting location, not as great as uh, but close.

I don't think it is necessarily guaranteed that Herman goes to UT-Austin. Everyone has speculated that b/c they are struggling and he has once coached there under Mack Brown. Never once have I seen where this has been his "destination dream job."

Couple all of the above with Herman doing joint camps with Sumlin this Summer and then his close friend Fertitta taking a shot at the horns...it doesn't add up.

I didn't say he's had his sights set on a&m.

Point is he was leaving UH for a crap job like SC. He wants a big time job to move.

I'm not making any predictions here, but I think people underestimate how comfortable a friend like Fertitta can make his life, above and beyond the salary. And he gets to live in an actual city. Not everyone is drawn to the magisterial charm of Rock Prairie Road or Traditions golf course or fine dining at "nice restaurants" full of frat kids and retirees.

I think you have something here. Fertitta is the only negotiator when it comes to Herman's salary. That authority was given to him last Fall. Fertitta has also set up Herman for Mardi Gras events (with Pitbull) as well as Mother's Day at the San Luis. Not saying this stuff doesn't happen at other schools or these benefits are big time...but it doesn't hurt. Herman also retaining his entire coaching staff (except 1) tells me something too.

I hope Herman sticks around Houston for a while, but if he continues to have similar success there, eventually someone will make him an offer he can't refuse. I'm not ruling out the NFL either. If that happens, all UH fans can do is thank the man for what he's done and keep on trucking with all of the momentum he's built up for the program.

Hopefully, Sumlin knocks it over the fence and it becomes a moot question for now. But if something goes awry and the unanticipated (by many of us, anyway) occurs, it is comforting to think earlier indications -- how and wherever emanating -- of Herman's dislike of A&M might have been false.

However it goes, it is critical, IMO, for A&M to realize it has a core, and maybe a large core, of staff that it should consider long and carefully before breaking up.

Again, best case scenario is that this type speculation all prove superfluous.

I think we need to investigate this relationship between Tilman Fertitta and Tom Herman. Mr. Fertitita owns Landry''s and is worth 2.3 billion, while his brother owns UFC and is worth 1.8 billion. If they are paying Tom Herman extra incentive under the table that must violate some NCAA rules. We need to go after him. I think Herman style would be a great fit for us even if he did attend TU. Herman has made statements sounding like he is really committed to Cougar High such that he wont leave unless UH takes step back from funding facilities. Makes no sense why a Longhorn alumni would be committed to Cougar High.

I can see why you would say that but chances are he and his staff see themselves in a good position to make a lot of noise next year. While they might be able to find a better spot right now, if they go do it all over again next year, they'll have money thrown at them

He loves Houston and the U of H but he wants in a big conference which isn't likely to happen. He would take either job that opens up first. Houston cant pay 5M.

With Tilman Fertitta being the President of Board of Regents, he and other rich UH donors can easily pickup the tab Houston to afford paying 5 million when they are already paying 3 million.
UH is already paying Herman 3 million when they only paid Sumlin 700k. UH students voted to help fun their new stadium so I would not assume they cannot when everything says they can. What really concerns me is the under the table influence and power that Fertitta gives Herman with him and his wife being given keys to the city, attending every big charity event gala with JJ Watt in Houston as if he's a celebrity and UH us suddenly relevant.

Now Cougar High have the #1 TU Alumnus, Red Mccombs lobbying for the University of Houston.

Herman graduated from Cal Lutheran, not UT. He was a GA at UT for 2 seasons.

Houston Coach Tom Herman received his Masters degree at TU.

If Sumlin chokes this year, Herman is the guy to go after. UT grad or not, he would be first on my list.

Herman can get all he wants on the side and he would leave in a minute for the resources of A & M or UT.
UT won't allow Houston in the big 12. The Ags and Horns already have all the viewers in Houston. They aren't about to help U of H.
PS, the Raiders aren't moving to San Antonio.

I researched it and turns out Cougar High does have some pull in their market.maybe rating were just a passing interest given hey were relevant for first time in 30 years.

If look at the Houston area TV ratings for 2015. The University of Houston vs Florida State was the highest rated game, higher than the national championship. 3 other Houston games vs top 25 opponents were in the top 10 including Navy, Memphis, and Temple. 4 of 10 top rated games involved Houston.

OK, tell that to UT, they will make the decision, I think it would be great but I don't see it happening.

Bowl games:
The 3 CFP games all had higher ratings, so I think it calls into question the other information you have presented. Please provide a link.

UH isn't increasing the pie of $ to the conference. That's a fact. Disputing it is a lack of understanding in the current TV model for college athletics. In fact, I'd say information showing that UH is a decent TV draw in Houston is probably ammunition for UT to not want them even more.

With Tom Herman's tone and shenanigans on the Lopez radio interview last year, it does beg the question whether Tom Herman will be able to handle the spotlight at a big school . . .

Why are you on OB and BON pretending to be a Longhorn and on here pretending to be an Aggie? I would guess that makes you look foolish as well. What is your infatuation with Houston anyway? Did you apply and get rejected?

Johnny on paper was one of the smartest QB's in the league. IQ isn't nearly as important when you have a job dealing with constant PR.

That might be the worst correlation I've ever seen. Herman is a great PR person and that's apparent to anyone around Houston.
That being said I like our coach just fine & hope he stays a long time.

Good heavens I just read your quote again. I don't think I ever heard anyone say Johnny was one of the smartest quarterbacks anywhere.

Hat to say it. But we can't do much worse than we currently are on the recruiting front or field with KDS at the helm.

I don't have anything specific against Sumlin, but he is clearly getting his arse handed to him both on the field and off. Players are quitting left and right, dismal mid-season breakdowns of our offense and defense, horrible player and coach management. The only press we have received since last season has been the negative variety. We could use a little life pumped into the football program, Herman might be that guy.

If Chollie has a good season, which, if you read the internet and believe what is being said, should/could happen, I think Sumlin's days are numbered. He's certainly winning the recruiting battle against us right now.

With road trips to Auburn and Alabama, not to mention the annual beatdown that is LSU, the season could be a long one for our staff. New AD means Sumlin wasn't his guy, so you can only imagine that the leash is short at best.

Tired of all the negative press coverage, Herman at least provide something positive to cover on ESiPN.

Then again, a 10 win season could erase all of the negativity and secure his position for another 4 to 5 years. There's some wishful thinking I guess...

According to his wonderlich scores he absolutely was. Now I'm sure you are going to argue that doesn't mean anything, but there is definitely a correlation between a high IQ and a good wonderlich score.
