I was at both Junior Day in January and Friday Night lights with one of my old students that is a target in the 2017 class. I witnessed them talking and was even introduced to Martell's dad by Mazzone. That story is bogus.

No idea if story is true, but why not accept Martell and keep looking for whatever type oc wants? Starkel will provide pro style competition. Sumlin and his 1 qb philosophy isnt working. Hill and Davis both playing would have been interesting. I don't think a pure pocket passer is what we want. Hundley could scramble and run. In the sec, going to need a scrambling qb. What if mazz doesnt land "his"guy? I doubt sumlin thought manziel was his guy at the beginning.

Mazzone probably should have ended it with Martel then, playing the cold shoulder game isn't the best way to handle that. That's for sure.

I'm sure someone at A&M was talking to the Martels, was letting them in to practice, etc.

Its entirely possible that the Longhorn staff failed at doing what many successful coaching staffs do, and that's create an atmosphere and program that kids buy into and stop thinking they're bigger than anything.

Martell may be an ******* and I've not cried a tear that he's not coming.


But this is an opportunity for Texas A&M to figure out why we're in a constant circle of having to speak ill of former commitments and worse, former (or current) players. How many players or recruits that we wanted have we called out for being "the kind that sink football programs?"

We're either struggling to be a place where the good, humble kids want to come or we're not a place that's mentoring and teaching kids to realize they're just one member of a team.

Y'all haven't approached what Texas did under Brown. It fizzled at the end, not the beginning.

If we continue to recruit undersized 5 star quarterbacks, we should only recruit those who have no father.

He plays is a weak, no football state. He will see real football when they play here this season.

IF Tate was not Mazzone's flavor, he should have manned up and laid out the cards for family to make decision. if they still chose A&M, then by all means be welcoming. Really hope this is not how Mazzone is- that would be inexcusable.

Yes, a big if. Tate was very supportive of Texas A&M, so we dont know all the facts about what went wrong. I tend to believe Mazzone was unsure, so that made Martells uneasy and they started testing the waters.

That made Mazzone even more unwelcoming and it snowballed. pure speculation.

Would be classic fail if a photo showed up of mazzone talking to dad.

Your reading comprehension is laughable. never said a word about approaching anything or the beginning or end of anything.

But, I'm happy for you that Brown could squeak out a whopping two Big12 titles in 15 years and had a QB single-handedly win a NC for him. If only he could have dominated something other than recruiting.

Mazzone should of checked his privilege and ushered Tate into his safe space.
