On the move.
After a strong outing in the Aggie Classic, Texas A&M softball checks in as the No. 8 team in Week 1’s ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll.
The Aggies are technically tied for No. 8 in the poll with Nebraska.
A&M went 4-1 on the weekend, with its only loss coming from No. 1 Texas Tech. Outside of the singular blemish, the Aggies rolled through Abilene Christian, Utah State and Providence twice.
Offensively, a pair of Oklahoma State transfers shined as Micaela Wark and Tallen Edwards got to work in their first time in an Aggie uniform.
Wark hit .533 with eight RBI and four home runs, including a two-run blast off of “million dollar arm” Nijaree Canady. Edwards leads the Aggies in batting average, hitting .636 with six RBI on the weekend.
Defensively, there is still work to be done as they fielded at a .956 clip through five games.
An error actually cost them a run against the top-ranked Red Raiders that ultimately led to an unearned run in the fifth. The Aggies were never able to make up for it, resulting in the one-run loss.
Overall, there was plenty to be encouraged by as Trisha Ford’s depth in the circle came to light. Five different arms saw work, recording a team ERA of .90. Sydney Lessentine and Sidne Peters handled the bulk of the load with 19.1 of 31 innings pitched.
The Aggies will embark on their first road trip of the season, competing in the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational, where they will face No. 23 Oklahoma State, No. 19 Duke, NC State, James Madison and Northwestern.
