Why does everyone want spurrier? This isn't mid 90's Spurrier and his offenses lately have been, well, offensive and not very good. I know he's a legend, but can't we do better?

Not buying it - Spurrier is 70 yrs old.

He's not dead, he's spry enough to coach and he's willing to coach. If Sumlin wants him on our sidelines then it's a possibility.

It's funny that some people are in denial because they say there is no way we could get someone like Spurrier. And then other people are in denial because Spurrier is too old or isn't who we need.

It makes sense to me. At his age he might welcome the opportunity to take a back seat and just focus on one aspect of a team rather than be responsible for everything. It's either get into coaching somewhere, be a talking head on some sport show, or stay at home and watch games on tv while knitting sweaters.

The comments he's said recently indicate he still wants to coach. We need a proven and experienced offensive coach turn things around. Seems like a good match.

Will it happen? I have no idea, but seems plausible to me.

If Sumlin is loyal to Spav (which I believe) then what Rojo says makes sense. Spav will leave and the announcement should follow shortly thereafter, but I'm sure there has been a deadline set. Spurrier will need to get into the facilities and assist with the recruitment process.
Sumlin is more loyal to his career and A&M than he is one coach. If not, he better be.

Maybe now that Muschamp is officially at USCe, they will finally announce.

Well damn I was about to go to bed but here we go again lol.

On a side note, after lots of research I figured out Rojo's identity. Overall ridiculous and a waste of time to do I know but eh I was curious. I do believe him based off what I found out though for what it's worth.

Guess we'll see how things unfold soon enough!

If Sumlin has Spurrier, then I'd say that loyalty is intact as well.

I get the sense that being head coach means dealing with too many other things to have any real influence over what's going on in your offense. That's why head coaches have coordinators.

On top of that, I doubt SCar had access to top flight recruits year in year out. Clemson is #1 in every ranking right now, and guess who their primary competitor is?

I think Spurrier could potentially put together a very effective offense for us, and what's more, I think he has the experience to tailor it to the talent we have. The only question left is, is it really happening?

There is a delay in naming Steve Spurrier as the new OC. But, other than that, everything is still a go. My friends in low places do not know the reason for the delay -- only that it is a delay, and Spurrier will be announced in a timely manner.
Delays usually signal a deal is not done. Is that the case here?
This is my own personal opinion: I think the delay is that no one wants Spavital, that Spavital isn't open to a demotion back to QB coach even though it includes the opportunity to be mentored by two of the greatest OC minds (Sumlin and Spurrier), and that Sumlin is giving him more time to find a place to roost.

Again, this is my personal opinion. Very well could be wrong. As I posted -- my friends in low places do not know the reason for the delay.

The important point is that Spurrier is the new OC.

I still believe. Question: has anything been signed? Is it official official?

sumlin's mentoring hasn't been worth a crap in this case and is a big part of the reason i have lost confidence he will ultimately get it done here. for him not to intervene in that ole miss game or do anything afterward is unconscionable.

i read an interview from a year or two ago during which Spurrier said he feels better now than he did at 40. He works out every day (and I mean weights). The question is: how is his mind?

I think we are still sorting through candidates. Spurrier might be willing to be our OC but I think he'd be a last resort. Of course, this could be a deal like when we hired Sumlin. CKS may be "going through the motions" with the search knowing he will hire Spurrier unless he gets a Chavis kind of call.

I don't understand the whole omg he's 70! Snyder at K-State is 76 and is the head coach, not just a coordinator.
