tap the brakes there friend. Prior to 1948 there were multiple makers/designers of the Aggie Ring. lots of finishes were available as well as stones over the shield(diamonds, rubies, etc). Balfour was awarded the sole contract in 1948 as a way to standardize the ring produced for the college because there had been previous problems with poorly made rings.

So to say that one finish is more original than another is incorrect. All sorts of finished were available prior to 1948 and a person should pick the one they like the best since its their own damn ring

I have mine antiqued, and it has aged quite nicely. Faded a little but it only adds to the look.

My antique has worn off. Anyone know how to re-antique it?

It's a matter of personal opinion, but I tried both on at the ring office when I got sized and the natural just looked too feminine. Had planned on going natural, but went with antiqued since it looked more masculine. Glad I did.

Oh, and I've only ever heard that men get a diamond when they make their first million.

Same happened to mine. Most jewelers can re-apply the antiquing back on, some special crap they use. When I got mine back it was too dark for my liking. I got a Q-tip and some PVC Cleaner and wiped off the excess and looks great now.

May be talking out my ass, but i think i remember the reason natural first started in '98 was that's when rings began being made as "single piece construction." I think prior to that it was a crest on top of a base ring. The "finish" was a "glaze" on top that helped hold together the 2 pieces "welded" together. I think you could even use a ring from a past family member and put your crest on top. The rose finish looked basically the same as natural but some batches had a strangely orange tint that made the ring look like a big cheeto on your finger (exaggeration).

To answer your question though, get what you like (you earned it) and F anybody that doesn't like it.

I had heard that you put a diamond in your ring after you got a masters/PhD.
