For the life of me, I can not figure Ragnar out.

A highly principled man without a foundation. Seems like a contradiction.

I think it is. That's why I can't figure him out.

I don't think the Commandant controls Silver Taps or Muster.

Rev doesn't just belong to the Corps. For the most part, she's the responsibility of the Corps, but that's because the University has delegated that responsibility. For example, the Commandant can't decide to bury Rev on the Quad. So, since the Commandant is speaking for the University, his position is officially their position, too. If the University doesn't overrule his position, they essentially ratify it.

It's true that the Commandant doesn't control Silver Taps or Muster, but the Corps is a participant. If the Commandant tried to prohibit the Ross Volunteers from performing their role in Silver Taps, do you think the University admin would stand by? Absolutely not.

If the University, through Ramirez, thinks that a funeral service for Rev is inappropriate because she's a dog, then they should state that.

Funny so many of you think it isn't worthy of a dog. however, in January 1944, during WWII by the generation of those who many of us revere the most, this is what the article about Reveille.

It was fine with them, not sure why not now.

quote:
Reveille, Symbol of Fighting Spirit, Will be Buried in Kyle Field

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Jan. 19

Aggieland says goodbye today to Reveille - a dog that won her way into the hearts of thousands to become a symbol of fighting spirit.

The little black and white mascot of Texas A. and M. termed "more than an animal: she is a tradition," by F.C. Bolton, died of old age yesterday in the veterinary hospital.

The aggie band will play "The Spirit of Aggieland" and "Silver Taps" this afternoon when they bury Rev in the center of Kyle Field, where the dog loved to cavort during half-time drills at football games.

Reveille's collar will be placed in a case and a plaque will be affixed to the entrance of the stadium.

Not long ago, when the cadets were raising money to have Reveille designated a general, they also contributed funds to have her portrait done in oil. It hangs where every cadet may see.

Reveille was picked up one night in 1931 by some Aggies on a road south of the campus. A leg-hurt was dressed and she was taken to a dormitory. She immediately was adopted by the cadet corps as its mascot.

She made trips with the corps; she frolicked in and out of the formations and when the band put on a show she wore an Aggie blanket.

Said Dr. Bolton:
To many a homesick freshman Reveille represented the dog he left at home; that dumb friend that could always be depended upon or a wag of the tail and a friendly bark no matter how dark the clouds or how negligent were other friends. Reveille was a tangible, visible connecting-link with a carefree boyhood.

And while we are at it why the hell bury her at the North end of Kyle Field where she can read the fake scoreboard. After all she is just a dog and we all know they can't read, unless they are a Border Collie.

Now a police or military dog...well maybe a small funeral or moment of silence.

If we started using a retired military dog that has actually seen combat I can see the frustration.

But we have a glorified Lassie.

Former E-2 member here and one that was bit by her at Final Review and I firmly believe that Rev VII deserves a similar ceremony like the ones before her. Gen. Taco Joe could have easily stepped up to the plate and told the university to let E-2 plan the funeral instead of a committee but he didn't. Like others have said on here, he has a real problem with E-2 and needs to get over it.

Sweetheart, if Ramirez wanted E2 to have women, he would put women in E2 (racist jokes from you aside). You Epsilon Deuce frat bros sure are sensitive

Did this Rev bite people? If so, no funeral.

She bit me multiple times. I was at Rev VI's funeral and I don't think we should change a thing.

By far, one of Texas A&M's most honored traditions is Silver Taps. Silver Taps is held for a graduate or undergraduate student who passes away while enrolled at A&M. This final tribute is held the first Tuesday of the month when a student has passed away the previous month.

The first Silver Taps was held in 1898 and honored Lawrence Sullivan Ross, the former governor of Texas and president of A&M College. Silver Taps is currently held in the Academic Plaza. On the day of Silver Taps, a small card with the deceased students name, class, major, and date of birth is placed as a notice at the base of the academic flagpole, in addition to the memorial located behind the flagpole. Around 10:15 that night, the lights are extinguished and hymns chime from Albritton Tower. Students silently gather at the statue of Lawrence Sullivan Ross. At 10:30pm, the Ross Volunteer Firing Squad marches into the plaza and fires three rifle volleys. Buglers then play a special rendition of Silver Taps by Colonel Richard Dunn. Taps is played three times from the dome of the Academic Building: once to the north, south, and west. It is not played to the east because the sun will never rise on that Aggie again. After the buglers play, the students silently return to their homes. Silver Taps is a sacred tradition that Aggies hold dear.

Where does it say that the 21 gun salute and TAPS is only for former military veterans?

sometimes a dog is more than a dog and this is one of those cases.

Rev is the symbol for your university to most of us who did not attend your school. Your traditions seem crazy to many of us but also seem unique and worthy of some respect.

Burying the dog with honors does not seem a stretch to me because the dog represents the spirit of your school.

Back when I attended the Texas v. A&M game every other year I would always go to the student center to view the tributes to your medal of honor winners and I would show my boys what sacrifices were made on their behalf by men they and I never knew. Then we would go to Kyle, cheer on the Horns but always honor your traditions and what they stand for.

A flag is just a piece of cloth but we take our hats off in respect for what it stands for.

Rev stands for A&M and should be honored.
