The yell leaders addressed all of these issues (long 's', 'hump it ags' in the Spirit, trains don't go boom) at Fish Camp this year. This was my 3rd consecutive year at Lakeview (2nd as a counselor) and it was the first year I had heard them take a hard stand on it.

Lumpee, that's good to hear. I also, hope they just simply start doing more Yells. It seems like they only do 1-2 per qrt. Do they still do Team after the other team scores?

The worst is the Sky Rocket yell. Correct me if I'm wrong, but people actually say "Whistle-eeeeeeeeeeee", and it sounds incredibly dumb. It's supposed to be an ACTUAL WHISTLE. You know, the thing where you purse your lips to create a high-pitched sound, similar to what you'd hear if something that goes "boom" were to fall out of the sky.

I wouldn't entirely blame Fish Camp. The Yell Leaders come to camp and lead a yell practice where they teach the freshman the yells. After they came back from it, I spent the next 3 days actually explaining what they should be doing. I don't think the yell leaders do a good enough job explaining the yells, and to do different things.

Somebody needs to go to the archives and dig out an old program that lists the yells.... you might be surprised at some of the stuff they "used to do."

"hump it Ags" during the Spirit. Every time I tell myself I won't get pissed the next time I hear it, and every time it happens I wanna throat punch entire sections. Sounds dumb, ruins Spirit.

I blame fish camp and my ex-ol' lady. Come on Rusty, you were raised an Ag. Weak stuff.Quit changing a great thing.

That was just starting when I was there. Mostly it was a few self-important people yelling at idiots who were clued out about the yell part coming up, but then fish started to copy them over time, and each class more people kept doing it, so more fish the next class assumed it was the way it was done.

Dumb ass fish under-instructed by lazy uninvolved upperclassmen is how all traditions get effed up.

All of this could be fixed by getting rid of the top 10% rule, bringing in more students with legacy status, and throwing ignoramuses off the third deck.

Yell leaders just did Locomotive Yell on Texags Radio and someone did the whistle. Sounded like one of the yell leaders. Fail.

I've been telling people this for years. Skyrocket yell would be sooooo much better if we did it while actually whistling imo.

I'm in AOLP and I have noticed that when the yell leaders teach the yells they go through the whole thing, but do their own wildcats/things only seniors or juniors do, but never explain to fish what their part is. Usually yells like the locomotive, or team, or the army yell are not even taught, so the fish are left to learn it on their own from the game and naturally copy everyone else or do what they THINK they hear, even if it is wrong.

But the Yell leaders would sway one way and the students would yell, "woooo", then the yell leaders would sway the other way and the students would yell, "woooo" again. It sounded very roller coaster, and it was within the past 4 yrs.

Yea, that's it. They only do it once though. If they went back and forth it must have been more than 4 years ago. The good news is that they don't now. Too bad they still go "woooo" though.

Zep, thanks. I just wish that going in to the SEC, we do the best job possible to get Kyle and the 12th Man to be the best.

Whether the Yell Leaders have to take charge or just by word of mouth and tell the person next to you, "Hey, this is how to do it", just fix it. Old Army, New Army, we are Army, just get it done.

Rag, I'm with you. If you had 30,000 people whistling from the east decks, it would sound sick. I think that would certainly get the opposing team's attention.

The yell leaders need to set things straight, unfortunately, I don't think the students trying to correct eachother would ever catch on.

I've been in AOLP for a year, but been involved with them for 3. If you're in AOLP, you probably know who I am haha

If you want to blame it on the corps, blame it on the fact that the Trigon's infinite wisdom created corps block which means the "keepers of the spirit" are no longer spread amongst the rest of the student body to educate by example.

About 10 minutes before halftime a couple years back, I went up to 3rd deck to watch the band and found folks sitting down and a total lack of participation and enthusiasm up there even during yells. The fish (3rd Deck) used to be the loudest part of the 12th Man because that's what a fish in the corps is supposed to be 7 days a week...LOUD... The rest of the non-reg fish just followed their example. If there ever was any non-standard stuff going on that needed correcting, first you mandate the fix in the corps, then the rest of the student body would catch on. Of course, this means death to the stupid corps block (don't even get me started on how ridiculous the reasons behind it are).

But yes, the yell boys should be held responsible, but unfortunately, they don't seem to be in the business of maintaining "standards" anymore for whatever reason.
