In the 1939 team picture and in the khaki pants picture, everyone is wearing the all-maroon jersies. In Mickey Herskowitz' book "1939 Texas Aggies" every picture has the all-maroon jersies. (or all-white if it's an away game) except one picture on p. 194 that shows John Abbott (27) in the maroon and white jersey. However, the roster for 1939 lists his number as 53, so maybe that's a photo from a different year?
Edit: I'm not trying to be argumentative--this stuff interests me--but the only Weldon Maples I can find lettered in 1941 and 1942, making him a fish in 1939. Maybe the fish were using the old varsity jersies?
http://www.lostlettermen.com/texas_a_and_m-football-big_12/mm/Maples does not appear on the roster for 1939 or 1940, but is on the roster for 1941 and 1942 at this site:
http://www.fanbase.com/Weldon-MaplesInterestingly, at that same site there is a photo that purports to be from the A&M-tu game in 1939, and the uniforms are the white with maroon jersies and maroon pants with white stripes down the back. Could be an error? Could be "throwback" jersies for the Thanksgiving game?
