That all maroon is amazing.

The toned down tan is pretty cool as well.

Man I hope we do an over-haul on our uni's!

Thanks for the 1939 retro look with tan pants.

Look like a winner play like a winner.

Looks like the stripe down the back was popular, or is the Ags v three stooges?

John Kimbrough's 1939 helmet (appears that the Past Times replica really isn't all that accurate):

Weldom Maple's 1939 jersey:

Khaki pants (1939-1940)

In the 1939 team picture and in the khaki pants picture, everyone is wearing the all-maroon jersies. In Mickey Herskowitz' book "1939 Texas Aggies" every picture has the all-maroon jersies. (or all-white if it's an away game) except one picture on p. 194 that shows John Abbott (27) in the maroon and white jersey. However, the roster for 1939 lists his number as 53, so maybe that's a photo from a different year?

Edit: I'm not trying to be argumentative--this stuff interests me--but the only Weldon Maples I can find lettered in 1941 and 1942, making him a fish in 1939. Maybe the fish were using the old varsity jersies?

Maples does not appear on the roster for 1939 or 1940, but is on the roster for 1941 and 1942 at this site: http://www.fanbase.com/Weldon-Maples

Interestingly, at that same site there is a photo that purports to be from the A&M-tu game in 1939, and the uniforms are the white with maroon jersies and maroon pants with white stripes down the back. Could be an error? Could be "throwback" jersies for the Thanksgiving game?

It's possible you're right, and what's being attributed to the 1939 team is really an early 1940's style uniform - Unless of course the striped jerseys were introduced part way into the 1939 season, which could explain why there are photos of both styles being attributed to the 1939 season.

However, it does appear in the photo attributed to the 1939 TU game that the Aggies are also wearing maroon (instead of khaki) pants, so it's quite possible that the date is simply incorrect, and it is really a photo dating from the early 1940's.

To those discussing the Maples jersey and the Kimbrough helmet, I own both the jersey and helmet. That jersey style was worn from 1936-1938 as a varsity jersey and was handed down to the fish team in 1939. However, I have photographic evidence (specifically from the 1939 game vs Centenary) that shows a single player wearing that jersey style. I think in those days, they were less concerned with jerseys being uniform in games - the primary game uniform was all white (or maroon) with opposite color numerals and ringer collar. It is my belief that Maples was a freshman in 1939 & inherited the varsity jersey. I do have a photo of the 1939 fish team (believe it is in the 1939 A&M tu program) that shows the fish team wearing this jersey type.

Like I've said before, the sleeve stripes just don't work on today's unis. And now we've found out that this particular style wasn't the 1939 varsity jersey, this particular throwback idea has lost a bit of its luster.

Therefore, the true throwback for the 1939 MNC team would be all maroon jerseys with khaki pants.

As much as I like traditional uniforms and hate change, I do like the throwback stuff I've seen on this thread, beginning with Zone's helmet design.

For traditionalists, here's a history of Aggie hard hats:

If anyone knows how to email OklaCityAg or WarHymnAggie, I'd be interested in seeing their thoughts on this topic, as they are the uber-historians of this board.

Thanks, rcb. I think the maroon and white jersies are too busy. I prefer the all maroon and khaki. Excellent job!

Two colors is too busy? Really? Don't care, the first one RCB did is hot.
