The helmet and shoes are off color because it supposed to look like dyed leather. HTH.

Obviously. It doesn't change the fact that they could have made the shades a little closer.

Well yeah they could have, but the design calls for the helmet and shoes to look like old leather and so there needs to be some contrast or else it just looks like a modern Michigan uniform.
