Exactly, but AO wants to shove it in your face and make themselves look good. If they just wrote a check you may not find out as easily. But it's what you do when NOBODY IS WATCHING that counts.

NO! Sick of the whole pc pink crap in the NFL, etc. Support it by donating money.

Football and pink do not mix.

Need to change campaign mission, I think most are aware of breast cancer now.

'Pinking out' is the dumbest idea I've ever heard of. And this is coming from a guy whose wife just had a bilateral masectomy 2 weeks ago. I also work for a branch of MD Anderson.

Wearing pink doesn't do s**t. Wanna help? Donate directly to research. Find groups such as Cattlemen for Cancer Research (these folks take donation, run charity auctions, etc. Part of the money they raise goes to purchasing lab equipment for our facility that is not in the state budget and the rest goes to direct patient assistence - things like gas cards, pay for motel stays, pay hospital bills that the patient can't afford). I'm sure their are other groups around like them.

Wearing a pink shirt just makes money for the folks that print t-shirts.

It has now been changed to "Pink out B/CS Day" and is on the 28th, the day before the game according to the facebook event.

The pink paraphernalia at NFL games kills me every year. How much actual cancer research (for all kinds of cancer) could be funded with the money they spend making pink mouth guards and towels? Especially when donating to some of the biggest BC organizations means only 80% of your donation goes to their cause.

Vague "awareness" campaigns, with no call to action for the public, just make me shake my head.

Oh never mind. No use piling on. Just glad they scrapped it, if they actually did.

On a side note, went to a high school football game the other night where the opposing team was all decked out in pink. School colors weren't good enough I guess, and yes, they looked like a bunch of fools. And got their asses kicked, predictably.

Exactly. I despise AO and had very little sympathy when they were sued a few years back by tu. They skirt marketing rules on 100% of their in-house developed content. They do carry a lot of stuff that is licensed through collegiate licensing, but that's stuff they buy wholesale. Not one single piece of their in house stuff contains a licensing or trademark (that I've ever noticed). Their profit margins on that stuff are huge. Wearing that stuff gives the appearance of supporting the school without one cent actually going back to the school. All they're supporting is their bottom line, even with the selling of these pink shirts. Are they going to donate 100% of the profits from them? I doubt it, they might, but I'll wait to be proven wrong. Even if they do donate 100% of the pink shirt profits they're still going to be using it as a gimmick to get people in their doors to buy other stuff they'll make money on.

So by all means go buy a $10 t-shirt that say's I support Breast Cancer research/awareness and sleep better because $2 makes it someplace. Want to help? Just donate $5 on your own.

It's Kyle, wear Aggie gear. BTW, love it when the girls bball team does this. It's women doing it for the women. No profits made by the athletic dept.

This is just not true, my wife works for the company and I can tell you they work very closely with CLC to license all of their products.

FWIW

quote:
There have been a lot of questions about the Pink Out Day event, so we'd like to clear the air.

Aggieland Outfitters has decided after discussions with representatives from Texas A&M University to move Pink Out Day to Friday October 28, 2011 in order to maintain the tradition of Aggie fans wearing maroon on game day. Texas A&M University has worked diligently over the years to encourage and instill this tradition. We feel like the same objective of raising breast cancer awareness can be accomplished through a county wide Pink Out Day.

Due to the overwhelming support from the community and local governments, We feels that the optimum awareness will be achieved by encouraging everyone in the Brazos Valley to wear pink on October 28, 2011. Aggieland Outfitters and Inspirations will continue to donate profits from the sales of pink merchandise to Pink Alliance, a local Breast Cancer support group.

Customers have requested maroon breast cancer awareness t-shirts and they will be available shortly.

Good. I may buy a maroon breast cancer shirt. But seriously, the people at AO just charged in and stepped on some serious toe with that little stunt. You can't help but ask "what were y'all thinking?". Hopefully, this is a lesson learned and it won't happen again.
