If people would just donate their money to cancer research rather than buying endless gobs of pink crap....then we might actually have a cure to cancer.

I would support the pink ribbon on the maroon shirt.

I'd wear a pink ribbon for this cause. I just don't want to see random specks of pink shirts throughout the student section.

Please, the disease has plenty of awareness.

You want to raise awareness, then raise awareness for rabies.

Soooooo...is "Vulva Out Kyle Field" still on?

We could do it to raise awareness for cervical cancer.

Donate to your local American Cancer Society. They support research, as well as help people who have cancer. Some of their supported research is happening right now at Texas A&M. I dont remember the numbers but more of your money goes to the cause when you donate to them then when you donate to some of these other organizations. They will take any amount and will not turn you away. Relay for Life is a great event. There are 2 in the local area, Brazos Co. and Texas A&M and are held in the spring. You can get more info on their website. www.cancer.org

I have personally been trying to raise cancer awareness and obtain donations on campus for years now. Most of the students just walk on by and pretend like they don't hear you. What you guys don't realize is that cancer affects EVERYONE. You don't have to be old to get cancer and you don't have to be a woman to get breast cancer. Men get it too. Yes, October is filled with huge Breast Cancer Awareness campaigns but none to this scale. Organizations are on campus all the time trying to raise funds for the American Cancer Society of the Brazos Valley but most of you just walk on by, not all, but most. Now that a big company, like Aggieland Outfitters and Inspirations are proposing to do something about it, everyone gets all mad. It's a good cause. Pink Alliance is a group of women from Bryan/College Station that survived cancer and now they're giving back. They help pay for treatments that aren't covered by insurance, provide resources and advice, prosthesis, and much more. Isn't the Aggie Spirit about giving back to the community? I don't think you realize just how much this would help people you see everyday but don't necessarily know what they're going through. Asking for donations isn't enough anymore, people just don't donate. I support Aggieland Outfitters/Inspirations for trying to do something good for our community. Wear maroon with a pink ribbon, hat, bandana, something. Aggieland Outfitters is selling pink 12th man towels. Even those would help show support and all of the proceeds go to Pink Alliance. It doesn't matter what you wear, just show support and don't turn it into something negative when it's not meant to be.

So I guess since my mom had breast cancer I should support this. Well, I don't. I don't think it's right to force feed charity or try to make it cool by bringing it to Kyle Field. People will donate to causes that they relate to. Not everyone will donate to cancer and many people donate to other causes that are just as important. If you want to promote stuff, that's fine but don't try to make every cause another RW&B out.

this GD disease hits too close to home. I support the idea.

At least some good will come from an Aggie football game this year.

I heard today that the $2000 that Komen requires to run also goes to fund abortions. Is that true?

the todd- I have heard that too. They donate to planned parenthood and planned parenthood gets money from Susan G. Komen as well as the government to kill unborn babies. My family has since stopped donating to their particular cause. We donate to the American Cancer Society and a Leukemia Foundation.

cancer_affects_us_all- As far as collecting on campus, I can personally say that as a college student, I don't always have tons of cash to throw around to every cause when I'm rushing from one class to another. I'm a little offended that you're accusing the students of not knowing that cancer affects all types of people. My grandma has lung cancer and a very close family friend is on her last round of chemo for lymphoma. I know how cancer affects us, but at the same time, I don't support this "pink-out" Kyle. I don't appreciate being force fed causes and I will be wearing maroon to the game. Plan an event to sell t-shirts on campus (and make them not stupid, like "gig the cure" from last year) and I'll buy it. Make them reasonably priced and I know lots of others will too. As far as "people don't donate"-- maybe look somewhere other than campus where many of us are on scholarship already or are working to pay for college. I'm tired of people trying to make me feel bad for not giving all of my spare money to every cause that sets up a table on campus.

edited for misspelling.

Wow. Never heard this. Definately looking into it, and will make sure others know about it, if true.

Wow- I hoped it wasn't true. I know quite a few people who donate and participate in events. They will be appalled when I tell them about that.

Again, this isn't going to Susan G. Komen... its going to the Pink Alliance a local group that is part of the American Cancer Society.

Make t-shirts with pink ribbons
Donate money
Set up an AO pink booth
Make a commercial
Write a song
Fly a plane with a f***in banner

I have breast cancer survivors in my family, too. I have lost friends to bread cancer. It is a horrible disease and worthy of the time and money of anyone who wishes to donate.

But enough with stupid looking, dickweed neon pink shirts at KYLE!

It is a football game, and the stadium should be painted MAROON in support of AGGGIE FOOTBALL. it is not AO place to stick their cause of the day billboard and give a stage to every attention starved, neon wearing f***stick who HAS to be seen.

Enough of the AO crap. I've shopped there before, and was planning to again. They have lost all future intended purchases from me.

Enough already.

donate money if you feel like it
wear maroon
people are well aware of the disease
the color pink never helped anyone out
car ribbons also help no one do anything

forbes had an article that basically said breast cancer is the most over-funded form of cancer research. Awareness is crucial because early detection is what's important, but I dont think people need a football game to tell them to go get a mammogram.

Big charity, like big college football, is big business. If you really want to help someone in need, find someone local who needs help and extend the help directly to them. If you're not really interested in getting your hands dirty that way, by all means give big charity a dollar for a pink ribbon or ten bucks for a shirt and then feel good about yourself as you strut around campus poking your pink in everyone's face.

Many of these nationwide charities have "administrative" costs that gobble up donations instead of using them for the purpose they advertise. What ever happened to having a retired businessman or woman donate their time and experience at $1 a year? This is just another example of mission creep leading to the gangsterism of an institution.

Consider giving instead to a local charity. I'm not going to list any here because if you're really interested in helping, do it yourself. [/soapbox]

Dufflepud,

Youre going to get a response that the pink out proceeds go local.

That's not the point.

Personally what bothers me most about it is that AO and this Pink Alliance or whatever just feel like hey f it let's use kyle field as a pr move. Look I'm not against cancer research but to me this is more about AO trying to get PR for themselves more than anything. If you want to raise money just have people stand outside the stadium and sell ribbons for $1 a piece and I guarantee that you would be able to raise a lot of money, I'm willing to be Aggies would be paying more than a buck. But it just bothers me to think that two organizations not affiliated with the University thinks it's cool to try to just force this on everybody. At least that Wildfire Relief fund is using our colors when they do their thing.

Some of you guys need to take your tin-foil caps off.

Maybe, just maybe... people want to do something nice because it is a good thing to do.

I know this is the internet where it is never cool to like or support anything, but no one is trying to screw you over our force something onto you. A local store is trying to raise money for a local group of women. They aren't holding a gun to your head to make you buy a 10$ shirt.

Only Texags could turn this into something negative.

no-one here is against raising money for cancer. people are against pink-out. It's stupid. we already sell Maroon-out shirts.

The whole reason Maroon out was started in 1998 is b/c there was a kaleidoscope of colors at Aggie games (mostly maroon and white, but a lot of random colors as well).

By having a student-run, university sanctioned fund-raiser, we could get people back into the habit of wearing maroon to every game.

RWB was a special exception, b/c of the somber moment, and the massive grass-roots campaign that spawned from it.

Having these ____-out kyle X number of times a year is stupid. People get numbed to it, the media gets bored with it. Believe it or not, not everyone reads TexAgs, so all these silly kyle field campaigns should cease. We need to wear maroon and BE LOUD.

Like others have said, its just a big PR stunt so someone can say "that was my idea."

Sell ribbons, or maroon shirts with a ribbon printed on it, ask for donations at Kyle. Maybe find a corporate sponsor that will donate $1 per ticket stub received (instead of giving out $1 tacos at Taco Bell), hell there are a thousand ways to go about this.
