Yes it is true. I am not sure why. Col Jake Betty is the interim Commandant.

It is true, and most folks I know think it is a good move. It may relate to putting the Corps back under the Dept. of Student Affairs, where it always was until Murano made it report directly to the President.

Loftin is moving quickly to streamline administration. He's very much in the Bob Gates mode.

I agree that VA was bad for the corps. But, I don't see anyone taking it back to where it should be.

I don't know Col. Betty, but I sure do know fish Groves (sorry, Shady, I had to say that). He was a fish in our outfit my sophomore year; ran into him again on campus a few years ago. In my opinion, he's top notch.

You've made this assertion before. I can't quite figure out how this matters.

The Academies are always going to be senior and "pull rank", but beyond that, at what point are we going to be in a situation where it is the commandants, not the Universities, Senators, Representatives etc who are calling the shots?

It's not like they are leading all the troops together in battle someplace.


And count me among those who are highly relieved that VanA is gone AND that the Commandant is moving out of the President's office.

Now, we need to go back to having the Departments of Military Science working with the Corps instead of against it.

I think there is going to be at least one GO we can choose from to take over the commandant duties here in the near term. In the meantime COL Betty is good choice.

Which, IIRC, was part of her response to being forced to make Weber the VP for Student Affairs. So this just strikes me as ratifying Perry's placement of his buddies at TAMU.

Yes the last two commandants have been bad, but who would have thunk that I would be yearning for the days of Hopgood? He was much less destructive than VA.
