I've always wondered how radial engines worked. I've got a good grasp on inline and V engines. But do not understand how radials work. Anyone have a simplistic explanation or any sources that can explain them?

The R2800 was not, by any means, a simple variant of the Wasp but was also somewhat responsible for the tremendous impact this family of engines had.


The R4360 is…even still a little cooler.

The R-4360 was not outdated because it failed in any respect.

It was outdated because engineers had reached the absolute limit of what piston technology could become and this was possibly the most advanced iteration of piston technology.



Not exactly 'mechanic-friendly' however.
